When Trump did this, people eventually started to feel that He was invincible and that nothing could stop him; the headlines kept coming, but nothing changed. I wonder if we'll see the same effect with Mamdani.

Ignoring how dumb this whole story is (all mayors and pols have media people that send out releases), I still find it incredible how Zohran's doing his own form of "flood the zone". A new story every week that keeps opponents and traditional media busy; none of which leads to anything at all.

Case in point: bsky.app/profile/spea... We can hold all the hearings we want, we can pass all the laws we want, it doesn't matter unless those laws change how the courts handle these cases, or how individual CMs will respond to those changes.

This will continue to happen as long as it is easier to sue the city/DOT for acting than for not acting. It doesn't matter who is mayor, how much DOT wants this, how many "Vision Zero means Zero" statements the city council speaker puts out, or how many Street Plans we pass.

As I understand it, this was a move that started under Adams by some union leader looking for an easy win before his reelection. Menin saw an opportunity to make Zohran look bad and picked it up.

There is a universe here where Bruce can win simply because he's not an establishment Dem. We saw this with the right shift in NYC in 2024, a shift that Zohran reversed because it turns out NYC didn't become more MAGA, but more anti-establishment. And anti-establishmentism has only grown.

None of that has anything to do with the topic at hand: Iran is not folding, we're running out of missiles, and gasoline is above $4. At the moment, Iran has zero reasons to give up, because they know they can just wait till the midterms. We should have never gotten involved in this garbage.

The midterms were always shaping the war, just not from the US' POV, until now, I guess. Iran knew what they were doing from the beginning. Make oil expensive, then wait until November. It was a genius plan that understood America better than Trump ever could.

Explain to me how this isn't proof that the council needs a complete reform. You have Elected Officials mad that the govt is considering hiring someone who worked on a set of ballot proposals that the people voted for. Proportional Representation. It needs to happen.

There's also the lack of regulations, specially in the US. Regulations can be good for innovation since they apply a restriction on businesses. We have become allergic to it, to the point that it makes more sense to bribe the govt than to put capital into risky R&D.
000
Pedro @pjrt.dev · 03/08/2026
I don't disagree with the underlying idea, but I do think a lot of the shitification we're seeing isn't people choosing to be cheap as much as it is a lack of competition. There used to be a need to put money into R&D to beat your competitors, but as there are fewer and fewer of those, less so .
