I put some dough to prove at 7am on Monday. Forgot to knock it back before going out. When I got back at 7:30pm after what was supposed to be a couple of hours motorcycling in the Peak District it was trying to climb out of the basket!

Calling the practice to explain the procedure to THEM instead of actually doing something to help YOU? Good grief. Sadly par for the course in my experience with a relative at the other end if the age scale. It is always somebody else's responsibility and actual living experience counts for nothing.

In my old job at West Didsbury Branch Post Office in that Manchester a (local resident) customer said, "I can't understand a word you say - you appear to speak with some sort of Northern accent."

My mum always used to say that she loved Morrisons because you got all of your shopping and they gave you fifty quid.

It is really thoughtful of everybody to move #Halloween to the end of September, freeing up all of October (except for Bonfire Night, which I guess will be next Monday...).

I asked it for some hotel options, which it gave, along with the advice to book early because Mondays are busy. "It's a Tuesday." "I'm sorry, I should have checked before making that up. You can still trust my recommendations." My arse I can.

The last day of September… …caught myself singing The Big Ship Sails on the Alley Alley O this morning. No idea why. No big ships in sight this morning. Just a dreek September morning.

My old tortoisehell cat used to sit in the middle of the room watching them. Somehow they always ended up trapped under her left paw.

Archie seems to have found his spot.
My painting of the late lamented rescue collie Archie sitting on a set of shelves just above where his bed used to be. He is surrounded by other artworks (including another Archie portrait) close to the fireplace ready for winter.

If I have enough dough balls I make crumpets or ciabatta or have a bit of an experimental session. I'm plucking up the courage to try a bara brith (and have been for quite some time!).

I certainly did! If I already have enough bread I make five dough balls instead of a loaf and keep them in the freezer - very handy for pizza bases or naan (or even a crusty cob).
