Perhaps they thought we would be shocked that other Western Democracies pay their public servants so little as well.

NPR reporting on French student protests this morning: Americans might be shocked to learn that teachers in France only make 2000 euros a month (2200 dollars) Me: Do you not know how little American public teachers are paid?

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

Like I truly don’t understand how you could have been anywhere in the vicinity of Springfield Ohio even before the election and thought that he’d only go after “criminals.” Trump, Vance, and CO werent subtle in the slightest. I can only really conclude this was a lie the median voter told themselves

It’s very simple. A reality TV host became dictator because he turned down a role for Sharknado 4 and that’s why the king of outer space, who cheats at Diablo, got to kill Africa. Now the economy is controlled by a sex cult that has something to do with Harry Potter fanfic because of robots.

In July, we released Courtney 50.0. It may not be the fastest writing machine, but it has been honed fifty years of intensive language training. Based on the benchmarks demonstrated by this chart, Courtney 50.0 crushes the competition so significantly that we should have used a log axis.
An incredibly long graphic, using the graphic in the post text at the very bottom (a chart showing Open AI vs Grok vs Fable release date on the X axis, and model number on the Y axis). There is a long piece of whitespace, and then Courtney 49.0 and Courtney 50.0 are graphed at the very top.

Not to step on @rincewind.run 's toes, but just came across a Discworld (Soul Music) Quote that screams @funranium.bsky.social
“Look, nothing can get in,” said the Senior Wrangler. “This place is protected by very powerful spells.” “That’s right,” said Recent Runes. “And I’m sure we’ve all been strengthening them periodically, as is our duty,” said the Senior Wrangler. “Er. Yes. Yes. Of course,” said Recent Runes.

a lot of this is strictly downstream of literal Cold War stuff. it's not like the CIA was the only org doing influence ops in adversary countries and it's past time that the American left applied some of the same critical lens to its own lineage.

i am willing to extend quite a bit of grace on this and other information environment issues. you can't avoid being a product of your information environment and you also can't avoid existing in an information environment that is at least a partial product of hostile actors

Certain kinda tv writer has a habit of being like "imagine if the cops/army weren't held back by politics and bureaucracy wouldn't that be great!" And I just think they are so fundamentally confused about what kind of world that would be for arts majors like themselves.

The Trump administration's lawless killing spree at sea continues with a lethal strike on four more supposed "narco-terrorists" in the Caribbean. Very real killing in a make-believe war. Outside of war the general term for premeditated killing is murder.

I feel like there’s no way for me to say it without seeming callous. But quite frankly, if you want to fight and win a big boy war it means a lot of U.S. troops are going to die and there’s no way around it. Pretending otherwise will just produce whatever this has been.
