Oct 3rd - It’s October 3rd. Happy #MeanGirlsDay 📽️📅 Mean Girls (2004)

2 Screenshots from the movie "Mean Girls" (2004): First, a classroom setting with a young woman with long red hair talking to a young man in a brown shirt and blue t-shirt, both sitting at desks with open books. Subtitles read, "On October third, he asked me what day it was." Second, the same students are seen from a slightly different angle; the young woman smiles slightly as she responds. Subtitles read, "It's October third."

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV's Al encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah's team then privately lobbied the pope's advisers "to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously." Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:

Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

The Los Angeles Times is running a full webpage advertisement promoting tourism to Israel. The ad is backed by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism. The ad also includes a map of Israel that erases Palestine.

LA Times page promoting tourism to Israel
"Israel:

You'll Find It Here

Israel is a country shaped by ancient traditions and diverse cultures, where every region offers a distinctly different atmosphere. You can spend the morning walking ancient pilgrimage sites, the afternoon floating in serene waters or relaxing on the coast, and the evening eating your way through vibrant market stalls before heading out for a night that ends when the sun rises.

From sacred sites to desert adventures, these guides offer different ways to explore the country. There’s no single right way to experience it, so follow what interests you, mix and match along the way, and leave some room to wander."

Also includes a disclaimer from LATimes:
"This Paid Program is either (i) produced by the advertising department of the Los Angeles Times on behalf of the Advertiser or (ii) supplied by the Advertiser. The newsrooms or editorial departments of the Los Angeles Times are not involved. For those with questions, please email paidpost@latimes.com."

Richard Kelly fait une FAQ sur Reddit, et j'ai trouvé cette réponse assez surprenante. Director's Cut ou version ciné, même pour lui la réponse est pas définitive.

Quelqu'un demande "Reddit tends to like the theatrical cut of Donnie Darko more, while Ebert gave the Director’s cut a better review. What’s your take after having some time to reflect back on it?"
Traduction : " Reddit tend à préférer la version cinéma de Donnie Darko, alors que Roger Ebert a donné une critique plus positive à la Director's cut. Quel est votre point de vue après avoir eu le temps de prendre du recul et y réfléchir ?"

Réponse de Richard Kelly: "I am not satisified with either version, honestly. The DC was meant to lay the groundwork for the much bigger universe explored in my sequel. If there is a third version of the film it would lean closer to the TC now that I have written the sequel novel..."
