From Etihad's "RESPONSE TO CLAIMS RAISED ABOUT STATE-OWNED AIRLINES" filed with the US gov. in 2015. "The assertion that the Abu Dhabi government paid for Etihad’s sponsorship of English Premier League football club Manchester City is [...] false".
The assertion that the Abu Dhabi government paid for Etihad’s sponsorship of English Premier League football club Manchester City is equally false. In 2011, Etihad and Manchester City entered into a 10 year sponsorship agreement, which included naming rights for Manchester City’s stadium. Etihad funded this sponsorship from its own liquidity. It is not uncommon for airlines to have sponsorships with sports teams and their venues.

In fact...not *that* long.
According to the Premier League rulebook, the appeal process has a stricter time frame, whereby any party who wishes to appeal a decision by a judicial panel must do so by email within 14 days of a decision being announced. Under rule W.86 any hearing should conclude no longer than 12 weeks after the first appeal is submitted. Any decision by the appeal board must also be published, alongside full written reasons, within 30 days of the conclusion of the hearing.

What Louis-Sébastien Mercier said of Louis XVI's Paris sounds like a description of 21st century London. "Despite the frenzy of new buildings, rents haven't come down, palaces are empty, while the poor fight over haylofts and garrets."

It might be time to re-consider the rule which enables clubs to claim 100% profit on sales of home-grown players. It only seems to encourage said clubs to sell the footballers who are the purest and most relatable expressions of their identity.

Really concerning news about Qatar 2022 whistleblower Abdullah Ibhais, who was abducted by the Jordanian General Intelligence Directorate (GID) today. This message was sent by his family. Abdullah was meant to testify on allegations of forced labour at the 2022 WC at a US hearing on 20 August.
"Abdullah Abdullah Ibhais was abducted by the General Intelligence Directorate (GID) in Amman few minutes ago.

Abdullah is supposed to have a voluntary disposition in the United States on the 20th of August 2026, where he is scheduled to testify as a witness. This deposition is part of a pending U.S. District Court case concerning allegations of forced labor and human trafficking associated with the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Abdullah has just got his visa yesterday, the 6th of August 2026, from the U.S Embassy in Amman.

Abdullah was threatened with prison before by the (CID) officers, if he insisted to continue his advocacy concerning his case, or concerning the issue of workers conditions in Qatar.

His house was searched and he was almost arrested on the 21st of May 2026, before the arrest force received a phone call and left his house.

Abdullah’s passport was confiscated for two months between the 10th of May and the 1st of July 2026, in order to ban him from taking place in the same disposition that was supposed to take place virtually in the U.S Embassy in Norway, on the 30th of May 2026. Abdullah was then supposed to participate in Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF), organized by Human Rights Foundation (HRF) on the 1st and 2nd of June 2026.

When Abdullah previously confronted his interrogators in the (CID) that they are acting upon a Qatari request; they never denied or challenged him on this."

New UEFA statement. "UEFA knows there is significant and growing opposition to FIFA’s scheme. FIFA cannot continue to use our sport to enrich themselves and their friends. We can grow the game correctly. It’s time to prioritise associations, clubs, leagues, players and fans"
Further UEFA statement on FIFA plans

Today we have learned of FIFA’s deadline to associations to support their proposals or have the one-off payout offer withdrawn. This says everything you need to know about this plan.

But having held discussions with many stakeholders across the game, UEFA knows there is significant and growing opposition to FIFA’s scheme. FIFA cannot continue to use our sport to enrich themselves and their friends. We can grow the game correctly. It’s time to prioritise associations, clubs, leagues, players and fans.

A familiar endgame theme. How do White secure the promotion of at least one of their pawns? The first move of the sequence is intuitive and "natural", the second one far less so; and rather lovely too.

UEFA statement.
“This crosses a line that football’s governing institutions should never cross. UEFA takes it extremely seriously. So should every National Football Association. So should every stakeholder: leagues, clubs, players, supporters, governments and everyone who cares about the future of the game. The soul and governance of football are not assets to trade - especially with zero transparency as to who gains financially. None of us are the owners of football. It is not FIFA’s to sell.”

GM David Howell (black) chose one of his recent blitz games as the centrepiece of his new column in the Sunday Times, and it is easy to see why. The first move of his mating combination is spectacular, but most decent players will at least consider it in their calculations. The second? Not so.

2025 AFCON final hearing date set by CAS: 8 October 2026. No decision as to whom will be given the title will be taken on that day.
THE COURT OF ARBITRATION FOR SPORT (CAS) SETS HEARING DATE FOR PROCEDURE CONCERNING AFCON 2025 FINAL

Lausanne, 24 July 2026 - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirms a hearing has been scheduled for the procedure between the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF, in French) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF, in French) (“The Parties”) concerning the final of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 (AFCON 2025). The hearing will take place on 8 October 2026, at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Registered by CAS on 25 March 2026, the FSF appeal seeks to set aside a CAF decision declaring that the Senegal national team forfeited the AFCON 2025 final and recording the Moroccan national team as the winners of the match by 3-0. The appeal requests that CAS declare the FSF winners of AFCON 2025.

The Parties did not agree to expedite this procedure, which is therefore following a standard timeline according to CAS procedural rules. The hearing date was decided after consultation with the Parties, who also did not request that it be made public. This means it will take place behind closed doors.
