“Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees” is a great book about an anthropmorphic killer and came out in the last couple of years. Prophet is a bonkers sci-fi epic. Any of the Brubaker/Phillips books, but you could start with My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies.

As well-meaning publishers try to navigate the coming storm of state laws against diversity, I hope they'll consider Timothy Snyder's Rule #1 (from his slim book ON TYRANNY).
Reproduction of excerpt from Timothy Snyder's book ON TYRANNY:

"1. Do not obey in advance.
Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do."

Remember when Bob Haney just had Batman get over everything?
Batman saying, “But seriously, I’ve also found peace at last! I’m no longer haunted by my orphaned childhood… killing my past by finally putting the ghosts of my parents to rest has freed me!”

Periodically, I like to reread my favorite Scottish poem: Batman's Aff His Nut by Robert Florence.
Batman's aff his nut
Have you seen the way he cuts aboot
Dressed up as a mad fuckin bat
Batterin guys
I was lit at:
"Mate, I'm worried aboot ye
I know yer ma and da died
But everybody's ma and da dies
And we're no aw runnin aboot
Hookin muggers and
Kickin psychopaths in the baws."
And that was when Batman went
"Aye, but do you ever FEEL like it?
Do you ever look at the world and FEEL like it?
Like having a big mad base under your hoose?
Do you ever feel like drivin a big mad motor that turns intae a tank?
And leather fuck oot of guys aw night?
Scarin' the fuckin SHITE oot of them?"
And that was when I was lit at:
"Aye. Fuck it. Ah dae."
And that's the Secret Origin of Robin
and everybody else.
