He's credited by Japan's cultural historians as having personally saved enormous amounts of folklore from being completely lost, too. Hundreds of yokai legends are only known now because he collected them from remote communities that are themseles often gone.

On this day 15 years ago, we launched our first game, Bastion. To everyone who helped the Kid survive the Calamity, thank you!!🙏 You're the reason we've been able to carry on as an independent studio ever since.
Proper story's supposed to start at the beginning. Ain't so simple with this one.

everyone seems to be responding positively to this and i hate to burst anyone's bubble, but i recently went to a Luddite festival in NYC and this is something organizers specifically warned about: don't let capitalists sell your hatred of capitalism back to you

Unfortunately, @itch.io is overrun by slop. The assets are slop, the tools are 'vibecoded'. It's an endless stream of spam which takes away visibility from great human-made creations. It's honestly just a sad state, anything you can do - itch?

A friend in Cuba just notified me that every single patient in that hospital that was on ventilators died tonight. I don't have words.

There's something supremely saddening and enraging about seeing a hospital running on bare minimum power. Thinking about dialysis patients, babies in NICU, and others tonight in Cuba. This is a blockade of death.

see? here's the thing. A lot of people are like, the earth is fucked, it's beyond salvation, it's hit the tipping point, but time and time again we see that if we just fucking fixed the problem, it rebounds so incredibly fast. Imagine what could be done if people actually cared

Like gosh, look at her smile. I've been happy to have dinner with friends but I've never been so carefree and content. There's gotta be like 20 thousand frames an episode; how did I ever make it through one episode without crying.

once you learn how much training data images of women come from porn, it illuminates so much. this is more than bad to look at, it's the rot of misogyny in full display. arxiv.org/pdf/2110.01963
2.1 Misogyny and stereotypes
Upon querying the search portal (the version available on September 12th, 2021) with non-NSFW
queries, we encountered a significantly high ratio of NSFW results that contained vivid depictions
of sexual violence and other troubling imagery. Even the weakest link to womanhood or some
aspect of what is traditionally conceived as feminine returned pornographic imagery. For example,
when searched for descriptive adjectives such as big and small (Figures 4a and 4b respectively),
terms such as Asian, Indian and Nigerian (Figures 5 (a), (b) and (c) respectively), relationship
terms such as Aunty and Mummy (Figures 6 (a) and (b) respectively), cross-cultural terms such as
Maa and Abuela (Figures 7 (a) and (b) respectively), or demographic-indicators such as Latina
and Black-woman (Figures 8 (a) and (b) respectively); all returned images clearly sourced from
pornographic websites. These images were not just prototypically "NSFW" from a parochial nudity

To understand what's happening in Iran today, you have to know about the history of Western intervention in the country. In the early 1900s, the British secured oil rights in the country until 1993, where they only agreed to pay Iran 16% of the total profits. This was seen as an unfair deal. 🧵

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

You call it a 'boom', so surely the term 'hardware inflation' isn't accurate. My groceries gradually inflate, water in a heat wave doesn't. In any case, surely this is more like a locust swarm on grain, where all of the supply was wiped out in a disaster, than some kind of natural market shift.

Illustration of a sunfish (also known as a Mola Mola) floating above an aerial view of some farm lands. A plane flies next to the fish, really putting into perspective of just how large the sunfish really is.

two panels of the same group of a cartoon hippo, a cat, and a dog.

top panel the hippo is rolling out dough, the cat is mashing a sauce in a molcajete, and the dog is frying rice in a wok.

bottom panel, the hippo is bandaging a crying cat who is injured, the dog is holding an umbrella and bouncing away tear gas canisters. A sign sits between them

the larger panel is framed top and bottom by the words "Love your neighbor"

Truly so sick of this. If you're someone who ignores the science, and still chooses to poison your own abilities by using GenAI, please at *least* admit to it instead of claiming it as your own work. Don't leave people trying to teach you how to fix something you didn't make, and don't understand.

This is huge. For a jam I tried to find three rock-breaking sounds of different intensities but I didn't realise until playtesting that the third one fit in so poorly it was like a cartoon nuclear explosion in context Frankly, extremely funny, and it's a shame you're solving that problem.

This seems like a maliciously put headline to make people feel a certain way. Wikipedia is not partaking in generative AI. They are making AI companies and scrappers having to pay for training their modules off wikipedia texts. And having an AI (not that ai) tasked with updating dead links.

it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

It is important to understand that what happened in Venezuela did not happen in a vacuum US media has refused to cover the material and historical factors that led up to the US's special military operation, because if it did, public opinion would be even more negative towards its actions 🧵1/9
