It’s #BlackFridayParking day, so we took a visit to the Danbury Fair Mall in Danbury, CT. Even on the busiest day of the year—a day where the front side of the mall is packed—the back side and parking garage has more than enough space!

Add New Hampshire to the (increasingly long) list of states taking major action on housing this year! The governor just signed: - Single-stair up to 4 stories - Cap parking mandates @ 1/home - ADU expansion - Residential in commercial zones - Legalizing roommates www.603forward.org/press/housin...
Young Leaders Deliver Housing Wins,

Advocates Call for Investments to Match

CONCORD, NH – – 603 Forward and New Hampshire Youth Movement celebrate the signing of three major housing bills – HB 631, HB 577, and SB 284 – into law as a step toward easing the state’s worsening housing shortage. These new laws modernize local zoning policies by enabling more homes near jobs and transit, reforming outdated parking requirements, and expanding the ability to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs) across the state.

These policy changes will help propel New Hampshire into the future and begin to address an issue affecting every single Granite Stater. While these changes lay important groundwork for long-term progress, both organizations emphasize that zoning reform alone won’t solve the crisis. Without real investment from the state, too many working families, young people, and seniors will continue to be priced out of their communities.

With Governor Lamont of Connecticut vetoing major housing legislation (HB50002), it is without question that republicans are far better on housing issues at this point, and that makes me very sad.

It took heroic efforts to get HB 5002 through the CT legislature. CT has some of the most expensive suburbs & most restrictive zoning in the US - 2+ acre minimum lot sizes near excellent transit infrastructure & job access. Deeply frustrating to see Gov. Lamont's veto.

Absolute pathetic governor we have in Connecticut. His veto rested on "Towns are trying really hard, I need to give them more time" I'm sorry, the data just doesn't support anything the Governor is saying. We cannot permit our way out of a 400k home shortage without changing anything
History of building permits being issued in Connecticut by year by type showing a massive decrease from historical levels

Un-fucking-believable cowardice from Gov. Ned Lamont in CT. He just vetoed an incredible housing bill out of fear of a transparently fraudulent, astroturfed opposition campaign. Go ahead & tell him what you think. 860-566-4840

He was asked a lot of times, and a lot of different ways, what exactly he'd like to see housing policy in CT look like and didn't provide a particularly clear answer. Instead, he emphasized his desire for towns to be involved and expressed optimism there's a version of the bill they would support.

Lamont's logic on his HB5002 veto: - We need housing - This bill is good - Some mayors and first selectmen are mad about the bill because of misinformation anti-housing people have been pushing - The things they're mad about are fine, actually - Therefore, I will be vetoing the bill

To say nothing of the shockwaves that vetoing HB 5002 will send through state politics in CT, it also means Lamont is hostile to one of the best ways for Democrats to build long term power federally: adding population to Blue states. CT’s housing crisis is already costing it a full seat in Congress.

Public housing vs. zoning reform is ABSOLUTELY a false contradiction. When I chaired a public housing authority, we literally could not do what we wanted to do - house more families - with the property we owned. Exclusionary zoning had a massive negative impact on how much we could help.

multiple issues here: -it’s unamerican and unconstitutional for the federal govt—and certainly the executive on its own, arbitrarily and in secret—to create a speech code for visa holders -even if that was permissible, suddenly accosting her in the street and abducting her is wildly disproportionate

On the train so I can’t make this tonight, but spoke at the last meeting on these improvements. Totally reasonable and will make some positive incremental progress, tho the unfunded IZ is counterproductive. Naturally, a small but loud minority will likely try to paint this as the sky is falling 🤷🏻‍♂️
