I had an enormous Boxpark lunch (work outing, got a brisket baguette with gravy for dipping and some chips) so my dinner is going to be an orange and a lot of icy cold water, maybe a little bit of cheddar and a few crackers if I am feeling the need.

I really don’t care for Formula 1 but this still sounds normal to me. A normal thing to know and be excited by! I can understand how you came to feel excited about a subject and want to express that passion by knowing many facts!

r. e. parrish cartoon, entitled FOUND THE LOOPHOLE. 1. A man in a hat with a monkey’s paw says “THIS ... IS THE
CURSÉD MONKEY'S PAW. IT WILL GRANT THREE WISHES...”. Another man gasps. 2. “BUT I MUST WARN YOU- THERE MAY BE UNFORESEEN C-”. 3. The man who gasped says “SHUT IT, OLD MAN!” and snatches the paw off him. The first man says “BUT!” 4. The man with the paw says “I WISH FOR THE REST OF THE MONKEY”. 5 “POOF!” The monkey appears in his arms, smiling. 6. The man’s head and the monkey’s head appear in a star shape with the words “NEW BEST FRIENDS! NOTHING BAD HAPPENED!”

Part of the autism thing is that I am inclined to think of all of these interests as Extremely Normal And Common when they are generally not, I just happen to move in circles with a heavy autism component where people are too into their own weird interests to make disparaging remarks about yours

That badger in particular is a work of art. I can respect the effort of the bullion knots, and the folk-art phoenixes are gorgeous, but the stripey little lad is so small and has such personality.

There’s a hit in Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia where Hannah, an academic, says “Comparing what we're looking for misses the point. It's wanting to know that makes us matter.” and I think about it a lot

Discworld QOTD, from Night Watch
But the helmet has gold decoration, and the bespoke armorers had made a new gleaming breastplate with useless gold ornamentation on it. Sam Vimes felt like a class traitor every time he wore it. He hated being thought of as one of those people that work stupid ornamental armor. It was gilt by association.

Mine are things like ‘lives in Brentford’ (I gave you a residential address, this is not something you inferred, Sherlock), ‘consistently chooses FireAngel for smoke detection’, ‘studies rocket propulsion technology’ (no?!), and ‘enjoys cosy mystery novels’ (GOLDEN AGE DOES NOT MEAN COSY)

Immediately lost respect for a writer talking about how their jam didn’t set but they used strawberries which are high in pectin. For my non-jam making comrades: strawberries are very low in pectin, which is why you generally use jam sugar with pectin added.

Obviously never, ever trust nostalgia, but seriously you'd just find a website that'd take you to an IRC channel or an email chain of people who had your weird niche obsession and no strangers every came up to and started trying to mount a reasonable-sounding defence of eugenics.

Do you recognise these buildings seen in the title sequence of 1963's 'Billy Liar'. If so, please let us know and the first to tell us will be credited with the identification. The film was mainly shot in Bradford, Leeds, London and Manchester. Thanks in advance for looking.

Once at my granny's house my uncle excitedly said a James Bond film was on the tv. My Da said "sure they're all the same, a load of lads shooting at one lad then a mountain blows up." My uncle got really mad at how reductive that was then became furious when the mountain blew up.

My Da, of course, knew it was the one where the mountain blows up at the end. This was a foundational lesson which illustrated to me that walking the path of the hater means knowing more about something that people

Post from r/crochet that says "mods are gone. All hail Mr. Nipples" and its a picture of the most disgusting crocheted doll/creature thats pink and has a creepy smile and horns and big pink nipples. It's truly horrifying

"You want fantasy? Here's one... There's this species that lives on a planet a few miles above molten rock and a few miles below a vacuum that'd suck the air right out of them. They live in a brief geological period between ice ages, when giant asteroids have temporarily stopped smacking into the surface. As far as they can tell, there's nowhere else in the universe where they could stay alive for ten seconds. And what do they call their fragile little slice of space and time? They call it real life. In a universe where it is known that whole galaxies can explode, they think there's things like 'natural justice' and 'destiny'. Some of them even believe in democracy... I'm a fantasy writer, and even I find it all a bit hard to believe." - Terry Pratchett, Whose Fantasy Are You?
