My first reading in freshman lab was her “Seeing.” I’ve revisited it today and it’s lovely.

Life birds are so fun! Before you know it you’ll be planning trips to go see birds in other countries. Have you seen American Dipper yet, our only aquatic songbird? Cute little guys and easy to find in Yellowstone!

We’ve met several platonic buddies on cruises! Including these delightful ladies from the north of England and we still talk about how they talked about their husbands (“me ‘usband”) happily hanging out at home while the wives traveled the world. Cruises also let you pick one or two beds in a room!

Thank you—legitimately—for clarifying. I had a moment of morning panic that it was Monday and oh god I’m late for meetings and no I’m too tired for this. But then: sweet relief, at the cost of those poor overworked children having to go to school on Sunday.

That I scrolled (quickly, granted) and didn’t see @maryrobinettekowal.com’s Lady Astronaut series is a crime. It would be such a *good* tv series adaptation.

Honestly, I think I’d pick Operation Mincemeat. I know it’s still on Broadway with its OBC, but it’s so good and I think it’d benefit from an actual film.

Found this, while attempting to answer the inevitable questions. JOHNSON! JOHNSON!! JOHNSON!!!
The dramatis personae of the 19th century play Too Much Johnson which concludes with the lines

ACT I—JOHNSON!
ACT II—JOHNSON!!
ACT III—JOHNSON!!!

When people were having loud sex in the college dorms, a friend liked to turn speakers to the walls and play "C Is For Cookie" at full blast. It worked *almost* every time.

This is SO highly state dependent that you really can’t make generalized advice like this without knowing the specific states and details. someone who lives in NJ and works in NY would be screwed by following this advice. Unless it was an aspirational “should” like “this ideally should be the law”

“You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.” “It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.” is also a strong contender tbh

I cannot emphasize enough that the New York City subway is not scary. It’s one of my favorite parts of living here. I grew up in the suburbs having to drive on highways everywhere and that’s way scarier

Cardinals can be members of religious orders that have special customary dress! Cardinal Seán O'Malley is a member of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, a Franciscan order. So you see photos of him wearing his Franciscan habit/tunic along with his red zucchetto (the little hat they wear).

I went to the Science Museum yesterday and as well as having a ball with my nearly four year old in their amazing child spaces (god love free London museums) I was utterly charmed by this caption.
A caption from an exhibition in the Science Museum in London about a model of an Apollo 11 lunar module built by a 12 year old boy, which reveals at the very end that the creator of the model now works as Curator of the Museum’s Space Technology Collection.

My high school did that in the same season - Hamlet/R&G, in rep. Same cast, same set. Just monumental effort for high schoolers, but it was brilliant and I still think about it.

Gemini 2.0 Flash Experimental got caught up on homophones and suggested “Ewe” reversing to, well, “ewe.” Which sounds like “yew.” Then it said “mole” reverses to “Elom,” which kind of sounds like “elm.” Then it tried a couple nonsensical ones and gave up saying there is no answer.
