honestly re: reverse engineering it just kinda blows to see your fun hobby get completely blown up by AI shit and people who love the slop machine because it's faster. AI art and shit at least *most* people correctly loathe + shun it, but too many people think that code isn't similarly creative.

Can planets emerge from the deaths of stars? 💀 Astronomers looking through Hubble data from 1999 have identified unusual amounts of niobium in the chemical signatures from a white dwarf. 🔭 🧪
Artist's impression of a gaseous planet in the right foreground, seen mostly in silhouette, orbits a small, white star in the background at left. The star is surrounded by a thin, bright white disk tilted from lower left to upper right. A semi-transparent tail of material comes off the planet toward the upper right. Distant stars dot the black background of space. Credit: NASA, ESA, L. Hustak (STScI)

33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.
The dock of Myst Island from the original version of the game. A wooden dock ends at a spiral staircase that leads up to giant gears on a hillside. A ship is sunk in the water on the right, and parts of buildings are visible on the left.

German would be so much easier if they'd invented model railways back when the language was created. That way they could have gotten their desire to shunt stuff back and forth out of their system before they inflicted it on the sentence structure.

For the 1st time, an extrasolar planet has left a radio fingerprint of its own, distinct from its star’s. 🔭 That fingerprint also tells us how strong its magnetic field is.⚛️ The planet is called β Pictoris b.🧪 Illustration Credit: ESO/L. Calçada/N. Risinger (skysurvey.org) #planetsci #astronomy
Artist’s impression (not a photograph) of the young giant planet β Pictoris b. A large, banded gas world fills the foreground, lit in warm orange-reddish and brown, with a bright young star farther back against a starry sky.
Artwork from 2014, made for the first measurement of the planet’s spin, not for the radio detection.

As you can see in the contrast curve... this candidate is right at the limit of what we can see in these data, so we're not going to go guns blazing claiming this planet - but it's consistent with a resonant chain, and it will be accessible to followup JWST/AMI observations with better calibration.
Contrast curve showing known planet e is recovered at many σ significance and planet f just on the boundary.
