This is almost certainly true, and the UK fails women refugees in multiple ways, including by refusing safe routes to come here, wrongly rejecting asylum claims, barring family reunion & not recognising trafficking victims promptly or at all. Now I know I'm stating the bleedin obvious - but this real world consequences! Here in multilingual Sth Tyrol, laws must be translated from Italian to German. But the prob is that Italy & the German-spkng world have completely diff legal systems, so some concepts are untranslatable!

Oh it's defo a bit dated & oversimplified to the point of inaccuracy. I wouldn't use it for "proper" linguistics (eg translanguaging) - it's for 1st yr undergrads at a multiling uni needing to work in English. But next time I use it, I'll defo be passing in your caveats abt Gteeklish. Ta😊

I am not very worried about about the Tory Tapestry’s misuse of “doth”. What worries me much more is this sequence of panels which seems to show a small boat full of brown-skinned people followed by a plague of rats running riot and then a lot of dead white people labelled tax payers.

God, here's a similar story - I'm just back from helping a friend's fam with their apple harvest in a Trentino valley where the "dialect" is really strong. After a wk listening I thought that's not a variety of Italian - after some digging I found it's Ladin, a close but diff romance lang!

Absolutely. & I'm glad in the article that the guy I quoted also points out lang-v-dialect is a hugely problematic. But with Greek, I've a good friend who's a scholar of ancient langs & folks'll go on abt ancient Greek & Dario's like 'which - from where/when?!' - it really gets on his tits, lol
