The #StateOfCSS survey is still out, and despite being off programming, it feels good to still be in the game (if you care about CSS, it shouldn't be hard to be in the top 100% of all respondents, like yours truly). survey.devographics.com/survey/state...

Bought a road bike for my son’s 18th birthday. Hit a great deal on a second hand full carbon Giant kept maniacally well. My son is chill and shy, you’d almost mistake it for being grumpy, definitely silent about emotions. I could see sparkles in his eyes. It really made my day.

My previous role as CEO (of my own company) was as much technical as business. I have shifted into an exclusive managerial role that I enjoy, but I still crave for code, despite having very little time to devote to it. Finding balance is difficult, when Frontend is well rooted in your heart

Someone higher up the corporate chain might not know what implications blind requests to dev have. Make sure they understand the consequences and act accordingly. Put your ethics and privacy laws first (in EU, the GDPR umbrella most likely provides you with a reason for your questioning)

All except the fascist coward of Italy, Giorgia Meloni. Always count on a fascist for cowardice and avoiding to take the right side in history. It’s a defining principle.

Fascism always fails. It is destructive and it is awful and not everyone lives to see the other side, but it always, always fails. It takes work. It takes fighting back.[…] And through it all, it feels impossible that we will win. But we will.

This post has +8.5K retorts and +22.5K likes and yet I think it does not get enough attention. This has the power to shut down any academic voice and research. FoS never extended to its economic grants: they found the loophole, effectively silencing those that can demonstrate their wrongness.

A paper that understands its responsibility, in a country that knows it when it sees it. Impressive from Die Zeit. Refuses to show the salute, but calls it out for what it so obviously was. Headline: “A Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute”
A screenshot of the Die Zeit website. It is a photo of Musk in black and white doing the Hitler “seig heil” salute - but the actual salute is blocked out by blue material on the left hand side of the photo. The headline is underneath.

Interesting AI rabbit hole. This raises many longer-term questions re regulating output (similar to DMCA or GDPR delisting) and ensuring it stays (aside from the curiosity, you can only verify the effectiveness of a block by trying to actively jailbreaking it with creative attempts. See thread 👇🏽)

The backslash worked, but the damage was already done. The poster has removed the dataset from the repository, leaving the repo up to host discussions. We should not tolerate the assumption that data is free to use to train AI models. We need a default protection, it cannot be opt-out only.

We’ve been praising the value of links on this platform for a reason. Because links are expressive. For content creators the value is in the curation. Google is hijacking links for profit. The length at which capitalism squeezes you for profit is depressing.

With AI we’ll recover some of the more prosaic meaning of “script“: we’re effectively telling what to perform and how, a play that recites code, up to the point the actual outcome is the only thing we’ll value (code being a mere “script”). #promptEngineering is more about Shakeaspere than bits

We need better instrumentation and metrics to measure the impact of web performance gaps a11y, but we also need more performance engineering in the a11y field from browser vendors.I think issues like this can be effective trojan horses to get there. Make sure to read the GitHub issue in the comment
