This had me seething a few weeks back when I'd heard private rumblings about it. The IFPA is banning trans players for speaking out against their inaction. If you play (or wish to play) competitive pinball, don't enter IFPA-sanctioned tournaments. They will not stand up for LGBT players.

I haven't played in a pinball tournament since last year. I can't support anything that supports the IFPA knowing that they're no longer trustworthy. I haven't flipped on any pinball table since January. I'm back to where I was before 2022, watching pinball from a distance but never truly playing.

When the ability to opt out of rankings in IFPA tournaments ended, a tourney director I respected posted a tepid message on Facebook about how the changed made him sad, but he just wished everyone would just get along and play pinball anyways. I knew then it was hopeless to expect any change.

I remember Mondays in my main pinball spot weeks after OBX, still livid, trying to convince local tournament directors that we didn't need the IFPA or their points. We can rank ourselves and protect our community. It all fell on deaf ears at best. Maybe being a terrible player meant I had no sway.

The biggest chip on my shoulder with pinball right now is just how few people were actual friends (or allies to my friends) in that space. The IFPA governing body purports themselves as LGBT supporters, but the very first time that was tested, they buckled, did nothing, and most everyone flipped on.

Microsoft's games have been easy to avoid with the BDS movement - and yes, I haven't played Horizon 6, it's very easy not to - Sony hasn't created anything I've been interested in for years, and Nintendo barely piques my interest. A game I backed on Kickstarter over 11 years ago at an atrocious amount is coming back from the dead, and it's really weird to see. I didn't stream back then, I barely had a personality, and there's these awkward remnants of my pre-streaming goober self bolted into what should've been a cool game.
