Then, if you’re able, try to get your body moving. You’re going to need your senses and movement is good for your brain. If you have kids in your care, protect their developing brains and their image. That’s all I can say about that.

At an interview you don't yet know the culture, so you shouldn't assume. The safe play is to exceed expectations even if they turn out to be casual about things like a beverage

The simple reason those girls are dead is because the position that would've prevented it was RIFed in FEB 2025. It was my job at CENTCOM as the Senior Advisor for CHMR & the Civil Environment Lead to QA/QC these. I was no longer there to do it. That's why these girls are dead. 1/

The credulous coverage of Trump’s claimed “historic deal” in Greenland — which changes nothing of substance about the existing security agreement — is yet another embarrassing instance of the media “treating the kayfabe as real.” Why would a self-respecting reporter participate in this nonsense?

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

Unregulated AI is a threat to civilization, without hyperbole. I don't know what form an agreement would take, maybe G7 MOUs working toward treaties, but we need human-controlled failsafes on these machines.

Really starting to dislike the entire superhero subgenre. It's completely played out as entertainment, there is nothing more for us to gain by imagining what-if, and I am starting to feel that the idea of writing super humans to understand regular humans is repulsive

It’s such a cool thing when our happiness gets entangled with other people’s happiness and then we arrange our lives so that we make ourselves happy by making them happy! It is very smart of our emotions to arrange our minds that way. Sometimes it can be hard but maybe we were built for this.

As an adaptation of Homer’s epic, the Honda Odyssey is a complete disaster. With its roomy cabin and rear entertainment system for the kids, the minivan foregrounds concerns that only arose with the American nuclear family and say nothing about the brutality that underlay the Bronze Age.

The funny thing is, the chuds hate this version of the Odyssey because Nolan cast trans and non-white actors but if they actually were media literate, they'd hate this version of the Odyssey because it adopts their civilizational frame and then violently rejects *them* and their ideology.

Country's got a real joy deficit above everything else. Knicks win, World Cup going well until Trump ruined them is proof of that. Just create constant excuses for celebrations and parties. We need excuses to hang out more than we need maybe literally anything else, economically.

A thread on viewing far right ideology through the lens of abuse. I think of this as the original sin: other people are less than me. Once that idea takes root, all of humanity sorts into castes and abuse is rationalized.
