It’s easy to challenge an election where the vote is close. But a 5-point or a 10-point election? Challenging one of those with the weak sauce “voter fraud” stuff Trump is fond of becomes hard to sustain in court. Turnout matters. We all have to vote. joycevance.substack.com/p/random-sto...

Climate change isn’t taking us to one new, stable place. It’s pushing us into a future of constant change and growing uncertainty. So the question isn’t: What will the new normal be? It’s: How do we prepare for a climate that won’t stand still? Worth reading: theconversation.com/hoping-for-a...

It’s increasingly common to hear climate-fuelled disasters described as the ‘new normal’. But our desire for normality and predictability is wishful thinking

Word of the day: Sealioning I have encountered this phenomenon very often, especially with anti-vaxxers. It has a concrete definition. This describes science deniers who appear to be genuinely curious about a topic but won’t accept any evidence that goes against their narrative. 🧪
Sealioning
A subtle form of trolling involving "bad-faith" questions.
You disingenuously frame your conversation as a sincere request to be enlightened, placing the burden of educating you entirely on the other party. If your bait is successful, the other party may engage, painstakingly laying out their logic and evidence in the false hope of helping someone learn. In fact you are attempting to harass or waste the time of the other party, and have no intention of truly entertaining their point of view. Instead, you react to each piece of information by misinterpreting it or requesting further clarification, ad nauseum. The name "sea-lioning" comes from a Wondermark comi
L
strip.
