"Where do the new teachers go?" is such a great question. It'd be nice to think that the answer is 'to their brilliant T&L lead' who is much better informed than those we might have had leading us 10-15 years ago but I'm not sure!

Bang on. You've articulated a lot that I've been thinking about, especially as I've not blogged for quite some time and barely posted on here for several months too! (I keep thinking about using LinkedIn properly but can bring myself to)

If you DM me (or Mike) an email I can send you something shorter, focused specifically on evaluation which might be helpful

A rigorous approach using flashcards will take care of (1) & (2) mostly, 3 is the hardest bit. We've written a fair bit about this topic in our book: www.amazon.co.uk/How-Teach-Psychology-evidence-informed-approach/dp/1915261953/r

@mikehobbiss.bsky.social is more of the AQA expert (I teach Edexcel) but evaluation is the key to exam success. Top 3 tips for that: 1) Learn content - in rigorous detail 2) Learn *studies* as evidence for evaluation for everything. 3) Learn how to contextualise evaluation

Anyone occupying middle of the 'ultra running' & 'cognitive psychology' venn diagram might enjoy this!

Ultra running meets cognitive psychology - this is the research I'm here for!

In case anyone got a really odd post/reply from me on here, think my account was compromised/hacked - been 'suspended' for 9 days and only just let back! What did I miss?!

We only have time for highlights each night (and are currently catching up after a week away) - but Channel 5 definitely not up to the ITV4 standard!

Sports Day. Back when I was HoD I had an NQT who was a Y8 form tutor. A Polish girl called Martha moved into her class. Martha was a perfectionist who found peer relationships tricky. She needed everything to be perfect and predictable which is, I think, why she preferred adults.

You may find this interesting - written some time ago now about lethal mutations, but I think echoes what you're saying here: apsychologyteacherwrites.wordpress.com/2021/09/14/n...

Not all mutations are lethal
There has been some excellent discourse around improvement and development in teaching recently. Whether at the level of CPD, with teachers improving their own practice or at a wider, whole-school …

I knew you (or someone) would say that! The wordplay/indicator for the middle letter just felt far too contrived. Maybe not one for the hottest day of the year!

It was inevitable, wasn't it🙄 Of course the Telegraph would run with something like this👇 So let's remove some of the rose-tinted spectacles and also look at some of that data comparing 1976 with modern heat waves Because the 1976 nostalgia porn is wearing a bit thin at this stage 🧵1/23
Telegraph headiline:

"Heatwave hysterics wouldn't have lasted a day in 1976", overlaid with a bold “MONK DEBUNKED” stamp.

I (partly) blame the unions for giving us the wrong (& unelectable) Miliband therefore providing no meaningful opposition at the GE

We’ve had comms this evening about a parents eve tomorrow in which male staff have been explicitly directed to wear trousers. 😡😡 (doesn’t actually affect me but I’m cross on principle!)

Nationalise all bins / recycling. Same colour bins, for same materials, everywhere. @rlrossi64.bsky.social do I get your vote?

I'm optimistic that he galvanised voters to come out and comprehensively trounce Reform. I'm less optimistic that, in 1 or 2 years time, when reality hits and political/economic conditions mean not much has been achieved/changed, people won't be just looking for someone new again.

27 degrees will be on the cool side in the next five days... The article goes on to cite research that behaviour gets worse above 25 degrees.

I guess it's that it allows for there to be multiple, variable 'imagined' representations in our students heads. So them doing 'XYZ' in a particular way allows us to infer - to some degree - where that representation differs from ours, or the one we want them to have, and to respond accordingly?

Blackadder S1 also pretty ropey. But I reckon The Wire & The Sopranos first seasons would both still stand up pretty well (though I’ve not gone back & rewatched either)
