“ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says government review” This headline is bloody absurd, and doesn’t reflect the report at all. It doesn’t even reflect the BBC story itself. www.bbc.com/news/article...
It said there was a risk society was now moving from an era of under-diagnosis to over-diagnosis or mis-diagnosis, pointing to data showing more than 4% of children aged six to 17 were now diagnosed with autism, well above the 1-2% that studies suggest is the true level.
But it said because some of these figures date back nearly a decade it was not possible to be absolutely certain or conclude over-diagnosis was currently occurring at scale. And there are some age groups where these neurological conditions are still being under-diagnosed - and that should not be over-looked either, it added.

I have been thinking about this article, and particularly this excerpt, quite a lot over the last couple of days. It’s a “research demonstrates what we already knew” scenario, like chronic pain finally leaving traces on an MRI. I’ve known my whole life. I’m so tired of knowing.
Screenshot reading:

Let's start with what people misunderstand about sexual violence on college campuses.

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.

For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.
