Never been asked in an interview - that is plain bad manners - but it is a standard question on many online application forms, including the NHS and other public bodies, where salary is banded. BBC News - The job interview question you don't have to answer www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Playing out in working class areas in the 60s, 70s, 80s! Our brand new council house back then was on the edge of an overgrown disused airfield, complete with tangled metal, concrete bunkers and the like... looking back it was a wonder no-one got seriously hurt

This sounds much like the monthly 'beer and crisps' events when I worked at EMAP motor division late 90s, except in person, and 3/4 of the focus was on employees sharing. Very informal, good team-building, usually followed by a trip to the pub, where MD subbed the first round or two.

Happy Lincolnshire Day! This is my grandad with his steam pumping engine (at Digby Fen, S Lincs). Man and machine kept people safe from fenland flooding for many years during the last century.
A middle aged man in a checked shirt, smoking a pipe, leans nonchalantly against a railing, alongside pressure gauges and a gleaming, highly-polished steam-powered pumping engine, used to divert water off low-lying fenland in Lincolnshire. Behind him is a wooden panel on the wall, displaying gigantic spanners, for use in his work, operating the engine. Photo in black and white, c. 1960s.

such a good eg of why political argument matters - polling previously showed over 60% support for keeping triple lock. Argue to unlock it *for something people also want* & numbers can change. (Obv can change back again if someone makes a good argument against, but either way, politics=argument)

An important and complex issue. On a related note, I would like to see much done about flexible working patterns and reduced hours contracts (including for professional roles), for people of all ages, but particularly for over 50s. May not have capacity for 40 hours, but still much to contribute.

Business-speak phrase I dislike probably more than any other... "I'm going to give you some time back" (when a meeting finishes earlier than scheduled) Especially when the expectation is you're going to go away and get more work done, rather than a coffee/extended lunch.

Big suit, even bigger record! If the Slippery People tribute, featuring Duncan Wallis, ex of Dutch Uncles, give them a go. It's a great fun night out and most likely the nearest you'll now ever get to seeing the whole of this album live (although David Byrne does a few of the songs in his set).
