Fun fact: Most prestigious book (and media generally) are pay-to-play. You need to be nominated with an entry fee, usually by your publisher/studio/etc. Nominating bodies obviously don't want in-house works competing so they usually focus on one to package during awards season.

I somehow missed this incredible story last month. Apparently the cops who killed Tyre Nichols will get a new federal trial. Why? Because someone shot a clerk for the judge who presided over the original trial, and the judge believes the shooter is in a gang that's connected to one of the cops.

People don’t like it when I say it, but the main place you’ll be pressured to participate in fascism is work. Especially if you work in a battleground space like government or academia. None of your weekend organizing can ever make up for active participation in the fascist project at your day job.

If you feel like there’s nothing you can do to stop all of this, start by refusing to participate in fascist demands. And don’t ever justify the behaviors of people who capitulate. They can’t do any of this without cooperation. The main thing most people need to do is just refuse that cooperation.
