Lowering the friction of local copies of the atmosphere I think is one of the best things that can be done to unlock novel ml and sensemaking like Jaz has done! Jetstream v2 and microcosm so important. Here’s my small attempt - im sure there are better ones! github.com/pboueri/atpr...

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

Inspired by this godawful practice - here is my new feature to the app that i think provides better access controls - and of course you get notified when they check on you
Different location sharing preferences in an app including none - when you left or entered a place - rough approx loc - exact loc - a path of where you have been

the proliferation of automated hiring decision tools (even personal ones) is pretty bad. I think it’ll take a high profile case or two to give people the fear like the Workday seniors one. But also human based hiring decisions have a ton of bias too lets be real. I think good automated tools help

This type of bias can exist with all automated decision making - jev or no jev. NY and other bodies have created solid laws about proving no bias for automated decision making systems for hiring www.nyc.gov/site/dca/abo...

I think your dominant intake should be local and underground - keeps you rooted to real people you see as real. But i do think big world stuff provides a common social substrate thats important and stabalizing. Full balkanization feels like an unstable state to me.

I think a plausible alternative is a really thoughtful social trust algo ontop of atproto identity or similar where you have an always on “spam“ filter. Content without social trust is assumed to be poor until it’s endorsed. Email suffered from untold congestion and spam filters helped solve it.

There’s also a more fair way to do this similar to business school. Mint fake money for the auction so that everyone is equal. We dont actually need to make restaurants for wealthy people only. easy to say hard to do and of course there would be secondaries… but still!

The discourse is extremely frustrating to follow!
Late this week, an OpenAI researcher floated a theory about air-gapped machines talking to one another through heat signatures. An industry observer (and a New York Times contributor) responded by saying, “This stuff isn’t even credible even as a bad movie plot.” A second OpenAI researcher, who is also a former White House adviser, weighed in: “The people dismissing this as preposterous are telling on themselves as not having thought about superintelligence seriously.” This whiplash—between the insiders offering supposedly credible concerns and the outsiders who think the industry is high on its own supply—is constant. Depending on the hour of the day, the very same people stridently sitting in one camp can seem as if they’re in the other. Three days after Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO, wrote about being worried about swarms taking over the internet, he was smiling at Salesforce’s annual Dreamforce conference. As one X account pointed out, “If you truly believed in a 10% chance of human extinction in 3 years, you would not be spending your time selling and integrating it into a B2B CRM SaaS platform.”

Ok not to be all conspiratorial - but the squirrels are definitely acting more crazy (and there are more of them) this year in Chicago. Combine that with intense Cicada szn and tiger mosquitos and it feels like something is happening

For the last 2 years I have been tracking a generational change in the nature of software development, and I think I've finally decided where all of this turmoil is going to end up. It's good news, but not for everybody. seldo.com/posts/we-are-all-product-…

We are all Product Engineers now | Seldo.com
Agents are eating the software development lifecycle from the bottom up — code generation already gone, review and ops following fast. What remains is figuring out what people actually want, which can't be automated or scaled. That job is called product engineering, it pays $240k, and nobody's training for it.

Italo Calvino on Chicago (from 1960)
Chicago
is the genuine big American city: productive, violent, tough. Here the social classes face each other like enemy forces, the wealthy people in the strip of skyscrapers along the magnificent lake-shore, and immediately beyond them is the vast inferno of the poor neighbourhoods. You sense that here the blood has drained into the pavements, the blood of the Haymarket martyrs (the German anarchists to whom a very beautiful illustrated book has been devoted, written by the then chief of police), the blood of industrial accidents which helped build Chicago's industries, the blood of the gangsters. In the days when I was there, the famous police corruption case was discovered, which I think even the Italian newspapers mentioned. I would like to stay longer in Chicago which deserves to be understood in all its ugliness and beauty, but even the cold there is nasty, the local woman I have made friends with is trivial and not very chic (so, she's fine for Chicago), and I fly off for California.

Is there any paved path to training an agent? That is you give them complex tasks. They come back you give them some feedback and then a meta learner tweaks their prompt. I understand there’s RL for work tasks, but I assumed those fine-tune it. Talking more about a DSPy thing.
