Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 20/09/2026Inspired by this godawful practice - here is my new feature to the app that i think provides better access controls - and of course you get notified when they check on you 000
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 19/09/2026I think your dominant intake should be local and underground - keeps you rooted to real people you see as real. But i do think big world stuff provides a common social substrate thats important and stabalizing. Full balkanization feels like an unstable state to me. 010
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 19/09/2026location sharing needs better permissions than all or nothing. Checkonyou.app 220
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 19/09/2026if it’s really gonna be this way - Resy should auction the slots and give 95% of the proceeds to the restaurant. Stop the charade. 1101
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 07/09/2026Reading this article feels like a trip because it can be so much better!! Its totally natural to want to be able to share where you are to those you trust but our tools fall short. A local first, social, auditable approach is possible! Checkonyou.app www.washingtonpost.com/style/2026/0... 100
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 14/08/2026Amazing - a dream come true. Also when donating make it easy to share on atproto! 020
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 07/08/2026Y’all should update utm tracking to credit bluesky when you’re able! Otherwise you may misattribute traffic 010
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 03/08/2026I _really_ love the idea of a "lifeline" of a post and characterizing its spread through the network. romiojoseph.github.io/bluesky/blue... Thanks again @ruoshuiresearch.bsky.social for sharing. I started digging in (see screenshot) and will try to create a taxonomy and write up sometime soon. 170
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 01/08/2026We dont talk enough about plot holes in childrens books… wheres the monkeys go 010
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 28/07/2026Is this anything? Idea is to create a (semi)structured "Attention profile" -- that can then be used to bootstrap recommendation systems. Like a really compact representation that is informed by all of atproto 100
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 27/07/2026I made a cute little animation about the idea for a talk earlier this year. I think we all have a little left and right brain thinking in us. 0121
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 11/07/2026Ok it will actually take quite a bit of time. It’s a really thorough study! The core data collection is 28k survey results of which 15k were thrown out. It does give a good glimpse into awareness and is probably really good source material for @mu.social and @bsky.app 100
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 10/07/2026I think the moat will be trust, customer service, and community. we are getting closer to thing that matters - the craft was just a way to get there 130
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 10/07/2026All nicely packaged like this and everything. There's your data model 110
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 10/07/2026Used to live right next door: they always fed the pigeons and bless them for it. 000
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 04/07/2026@attie.ai they say copying is the sincerest form of flattery - but also reads a little scared to me too 020
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 29/06/2026If @localfirstconf.com is successful this opinion will seem quaint- and that it will very much matter where data is stored. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf… 100

Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 26/06/2026Shocking - www.anthropic.com/research/eco... Claude code usage is higher on the weekends?!? Talk about latent demand. 010
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 21/06/2026It was a heavy import on an idle machine with a lazy network filesystem -- yikes. This fixed it 100
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 14/06/2026Love a good viz - numbers are reductive and you have to watch the game to know what happened but also look at the flatline in Q4 030
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 13/06/2026Interesting i did not know about 2 -- i see it's in the playground! Thanks for exposing all the knobs foryou.club/playground?u... 020
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 12/06/2026I built something like this but i wound up needing way beefier machines to make it useful so I stopped indexing posts. 221
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 10/06/2026Feed Local is this year's healthiest diet. Very excited to see where this leads 000
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 04/06/2026Im pretty sure this is because google ai overviews… which is also not great 010
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 04/06/2026I know there are other things to worry about - but they count the height of the radio antenna for the empire state but not sears tower. This feels like a Chicago snub and i dont like it. Sears tower was tallest in world from 1973 to 1998 132
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 03/06/2026@nbartley.bsky.social A LOTTTT of short hash name accounts -- something to filter 130
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 01/06/2026Here's the inverse @enflux.bsky.social 70% of accounts have followed fewer than 10 accounts since 2025 and 40% are functionally dormant / inert. I think it means I have to rerun the analysis and purge these inert accounts, and dive into who they are. I'll have the time to do so in a couple days 040
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 01/06/2026It’s not really bimodal but its a huge problem 70% of accounts have less than 10 follows. I think the key to understanding what is going on is looking at those accounts. Are they bots - or people who got not traction? 270
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 30/05/2026Made me feel warm and fuzzy Shouldn’t a new follow also be active? Instead of any old follow. Presumably theres a lot of overlap. It’s weird people are churning so much im gonna randomly sample and see whats up 120
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 29/05/2026One thing i want to put more time into is projecting out DAUs or WAUs based on current rates and see where we wind up -- then create a sensitivity analysis on top of it to see where the biggest changes can be driven from. For example if you 2x retention from 5% to 10% the user base will grow 50% 1130
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 29/05/2026One pet theory of mine is that people post and get no engagement - so why would they stick around. Most signups basically do nothing. But of those that post -- earning a like makes a big difference. Or maybe feed quality is too low to start and you churn It's bad lots of sign ups dont follow ppl 6300
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 29/05/2026There IS a committed base of highly active users which is why the place feels so lively -- but I personally would love to see more growth because it just makes everything else easier. I know I know -- growth for growths sake is dumb. But if the network grows we have more choices and paths ahead 1311
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 29/05/2026So I've been digging into bluesky retention data to see what is preventing growth of the ecosystem. Using likes/posts/follows you can see who is active or dormant on ATProto. The headline is that only 5% of users are retained at 28d and 10% of current users churn. That's not pretty 48212
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 27/05/2026Do they look like this? Waymo sent a push to their user base to lobby for the bill -- maybe it's just a lot of copy paste + batch sends. 1191
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 26/05/2026Obama center opening June 19 is the second biggest event in Chicago that day 000
Patrick Boueri @patrickboueri.com · 26/05/2026This new theory brought to you by the joy of a Chicago Summer Day 020
