I dream of doing that more often again. I live in the middle of our country and miss the sea.

raw oysters (down the shore) (O the stars i’d sacrifice just to see you stand on jersey soil)

playlists (spotify) (sent back and forth)
bong rips (sputtering) (coughing) (laughing) (falling apart into the phone speaker)
listening (rapt) (leaning in)
talking (too much) (but you tell me it’s fine) (you mean it) (i feel it)
understanding (comes easy) (too easy) (almost feels impossible) (beautiful) (unreal)
love (of you and i and us and us) (and everything else too, babe) (all feels beautiful whenever i’m with you)
long drives (to you) (from you) (anywhere) (with you)
hugs (warm) (so needed)

Thank you Jen, I really appreciate your lovely comments. It brings back a picture of my Dad sitting down at night with his notebook, listening to the shipping forecast, noting everything down and working out whether the North Sea catches would be good or not.

#PoemsAbout #Bites @thebrokenspine.co.uk I will put a reading in the comments. Midnight here in New Jersey. I expect to be out and about during the day, so I may be s little slower playing catchup.
THEM BONES

suggestive of cannibalism
bones have been found in caves
broken and gnawed by our neolithic ancestors

pseudo-christian white nationalist politicians
have been found in congress gnawing bribes
suggestive of economic cannibalism

ted cruz craves a “mexican on monday”
slurping blood from undocumented calvaria
on the tailgate of an unmarked ford explorer

mike johnson who nibbles knuckles
under his desk behind a locked door
claims he “doesn’t know anything about that”

cinnabar stained bones found in certain strata
suggest deliberate caretaking
and ritual ceremony

shitty grifters smeared with trump diaper slime
licking their greedy fingers suggests that
dc is unceremoniously drowning innocents

Friday again so it's thanks to @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk for another #PoemsAbout #Bites This one was inspired by my Dad's love of sailing and stories of the coast from Texel up to the Wadden Zee.
The Bite of the Bight
Whispering winds transformed
Northerly storms
Giants of the Arctic
Whistling down, around,
Engulfing de Duitse Bocht
Ship sheltering between isles and land
Evading the short grey Northern Sea For something worse to come
Silent swells forecasting
Omens of volatile seas
Of something worse brewing,
Frozen fingers gathering bights,
Shortening the sheets, Reefing sails ready For rolling waves,
Unexpected mud and sand Shifting creeks, twisting channels The triumvirate of Wadden rivers
Leviathans alone
Carving treacherous shoals
Surging tides, billowing waves,
Rolling with the wind
Calling the Waarschip to the depths Entrenched, consumed, chilled By a bitterly biting sea

It's difficult to find the time, headspace and in my case emotional space. My mum's garden was her joy, but she couldn't care for it, then couldn't create what she wanted when she moved. You are an inspirational poet and find beautiful ways through the words and emotion. ❤️

Thank you, it's a beautiful poem full of honesty and love and I love it! ❤️ My mum's garden has/is being redesigned by the lovely people who bought her house. It looks amazing but I miss the structure mum created and your poem caught that for me. ❤️

A Friday offering for #PoemsAbout #Rot. Thank you @alanparrywriter.co.uk @thebrokenspine.co.uk for the prompt. I'm travelling a little further North for a weekend with friends and beach walks so will come back later to read everyone's contributions. This one was inspired by Steve Harley and life!
Blue eyes blues eyes,
Ice cold bright,
Lying and lying again
Cracked by the mirror rot,
Desilvered by fraud
Layer upon layer
A mist of deceit,
The steel that would not rot,

This rebel hit a floor of
Dogged dust and spiralling hair,
Ephemeral in the dusk light
Stifling the lies and life,
Gathered along ages
Tumbleweed in empty rooms,
Warm breezes whispering
Through cracks and crevasses
Nurturing spores of decay.

#PoemsAbout #DeadLetters @thebrokenspine.co.uk It helps to know Bu Shi is a muse/alter ego I created in the early 2010s to post haiku/senryu, it also helps to know they don’t use the lettters L and T, but the poem uses all of the other letters. Our pseudo relationship is sometimes contentious.
DUBIOUS BU

bu emerges from a crack underground
open hand punch
hammering an arc of misshapen force

nor misspoken nor misheard

was a bad poem worsened
by jagged end rhymes
before even being conceived

weaned on my screams and misgivings

bad karma broken casino spinner
dopamine miser sucking my money sac
receiving receiving receiving never giving back

aces queens and princes join voracious jokers

oversized zippers sever
spewing sacred sera in free mason jars
examined by hydrographic surveyors

bu says form precedes usage

do you agree

For #PoemsAbout #DeadLetters With much thanks to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk
A free verse poem that talks about a lost opportunity and the inability of one to communicate with the other after meeting and the grief of hearing of their death many years later.

Happy Friday! My contribution to #PoemsAbout #DeadLetters Many thanks to @thebrokenspine.co.uk and Alan Parry #poetry #poetrycommunity
oblivious postcards

pfauenauge you would call me
as I called you poppy blossom

exploring the capital on foot
still blistered from my first
pride parade — vinyls and
movies about love crossing
borders while our chances
withered like the poppies
of that summer I loved you
in Berlin, in Portugal, absent
through time cutting me open

string of postcards ruptured
loss written with red liner
promised scars and nothing
but my own breathing through
an empty receiver.

Weather Inversion

Grief tags me when I learn that
You have just months left to live.

Mythos and lore speak of a
Sacred threshold that is
Crossed at such moments:

Brittle ground I tread -
Fragile air I breathe.

Late winter, two months before
You pass:

Thick fog squats down to dampen
Town and valley in a rare
Weather inversion that leaves
Peak and big sky unsullied.

Murk in April -
Two days after you pass -
Dulls my brain,
Muddles my sight.

Large, booming bird -
Rare in these parts -
Takes flight from an islet in the
Old abbey fishpond.

Heart gleams,
Vision brightens -

Now
I understand.

dead letter

i wash the dishes
in the dark

because i know
where everything is.

the tap.
the soap.
the chipped glass
you always said
to throw away.

remember when
you said
nothing mattered
and i said nothing.

it does.

the glass slips.
i hear it break
somewhere in the sink.

for a while
i leave my hands
where they are.

the tap keeps running.

i am quiet.

you are far away.

or whatever
you are.

eventually
i put my hand
back in the water.
