David's video nicely breaks a seemingly simple policy bundle into its component pieces, which makes the limitations of some individual pieces stand out more starkly. (I trust we economists would make equally tart videos if the politician were from the other end of the political spectrum).

Now I am on a westbound train in Germany with fine views of wind turbines and productive agriculture, two of my favorite sights. Don't forget this social event at a London pub tomorrow night July 30. We will subsidize food and drink. Share with friends. It is a rare chance to meet in person.

Fascinating story about a poignant dilemma. China's Belt and Road initiative is making enormous investments in clean energy in multiple countries. This does involve a lot of emissions for steel production.

Yes, so many silly people leap from absolute climate denial to absolute defeatism, hopping right over the delightfully sensible and adequately upbeat position in the middle: We CAN address the climate crisis by drastically reducing aggregate fossil fuel use. It stings a bit, but we can handle it.

These data centers in NC get tax breaks from the government and then hide the very data the public would need to evaluate water use, sewer use, number of people employed, etc. The tax breaks are bad. The lack of transparency about the tax breaks is worse.

The price of oil now is $105/barrel. Imagine a climate-friendly fee and dividend, with the fee pegged to $100/b minus the price when price is lower than $100/b, and $0 when price is higher. This policy will help the climate, help low-income consumers, and never raise fuel prices above today's.
