A life changing experience. Many of us are still processing our participation, in Op PONTUS in particular. 17,500 persons directly rescued over the 2 years approx. Op SOPHIA & IRINI were very different missions, anti oil and arms smuggling. I walk past this every day. Remember those lost at sea.

Hi Phil, It was a fairly crazy deployment all right. LÉ Eithne was the first Irish ship to deploy on Op PONTUS. We rescued circa 3,400 persons over 22 missions in about 62 days. I spent a couple of years then training crews for their own missions. My second full deployment in 2018 was on Op SOPHIA.

Great question Phil. While patrolling the Gulf of Sirte I saw the sky to my south rent by lightning over Libya & a few nights before I watched tracer fire rise and fall over Derna. I imagined what drove the people we rescued. From those days in 2015 the seeds of Migrant were sown.

Should have said full edit of the current draft after its first Alpha Reader. This bloody thing has had more drafts than a cat has lives. Entirely rewritten since 2023 when I realised it just wasnt right. Hard to start again after already putting years into it. Its a survivor.

And thats a full edit complete! 96,744 words! And... yes of course I have to make small changes before I enlist the kind eyes and brains of some Beta Readers! So, the next round of edits starts tomorrow! After all these years the end in truly in sight.

It's completely normal, but only when they are talking to each other. When they start talking to you then it's time to consult someone with credentials. It's not possible to create anything without being a little bit awry.

I dont often do it out loud, but I find with dialogue I need the characters in my head to chat complete with appropriate accents. I need a strong feeling of their sound for myself, its essential for me, especially with the fantasy work. Not just in the middle of a battle, but in ordinary daily life.

Another absolutely bloody curse of writingb= all the other projects! They drag your attention away from what should be the primary focus. Editing isn't particularly fun, well not for me anyways. Constructing the iceberg of an imagined world however is pure enjoyment and soaks many precious hours.

Hiya Phil, Just saying to Mike, i'll have to retrain my audio books listener brain. Word tect to speech doesn't work that well for me. First pass, a page at a time, a bit of a grind.

You're clearly watching me. I use this tip all the time. Its absolutely the only legal use of Comic Sans, and I often do use the word text to speech. However, gotta say, it only works of kinda first pass for me. I listen to a lot of audio books and so my brain falls into listener not editor.

Don't despair. 63% of a 44% turnout is under 28% of the electorate, in a safe seat he already held by 21,000. No surge, no realignment. He got double the vote of a bloke with a bin on his head. Conned people hate when you tell them. Especially when the con-artist has validated their worst instincts.

A very complex diagram which begins with the question "Do you need a a gift for someone" but, despite many questions and choices, always suggests either giving a book or buying a book for yourself, or gets in a huff and says "I give up!".

I'm thrilled to announce the absolute best news of my life: my debut novel WE WERE MEANT TO ROT will be published in Fall 2027 by Poisoned Pen Press! I could not possibly be more happy or more grateful.
Publisher's Marketplace entry for WE WERE MEANT TO ROT. Pictures above are of a woman lying face up on the floor, mostly out of sight and out of focus except for her hand, and a green tinted skull in a tree. Picture below is a slightly blurry road at night.

Text reads: Carlie St. George's We Were Meant to Rot, in which a distraught mother embarks on the last road trip she'll ever take with the body of her dead daughter to keep her out of the hands of her husband and his art installation, the Hall of Dead Wives, as she battles sleep-deprivation and grief that makes her lose track of what's real and imagined, especially when her daughter wakes up to renew old arguments, reopen old wounds, and reveal dangerous secrets, to Rachel Gilmer at Poisoned Pen Press, in a very nice deal, at auction, in a two-book deal, for publication in fall 2027, by Lucienne Diver at The Knight Agency (world English).

Worldbuilding: Really Useful Links by Lucy O’Callaghan
Worldbuilding is the process by which writers create a fictional world. Although popular with science fiction and fantasy, some kind of worldbuilding is required whatever genre you’re writing. Readers love great worldbuilding; it is evident in the success of Star Wars, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings to name but a few. It is important to get the right balance between your worldbuilding and your story.

Finished Vaim Hotel by Jon Fosse, translated from Norwegian by Damion Searls. A quick enjoyable Tales of the Unexpected yarn about a confused guest at a strange Hotel (California) in small town Norway. Recognisably Fosse with the single sentence and mentally glitching male lead, but also different.
