I continue to be gobsmacked at 1) how common this formulation is 2) how antisemitic and generally bigoted it is 3) and how for all the talk of anti-semitism this is never cited as an example even though it’s quite literally the original incarnation.

CNN has a solid, well-funded newsroom, regardless of the network’s editorial slant. a lot of good reporters will lose their jobs, and the public will lose all the stories they would’ve reported. and they are one of the last newsrooms to pay for costly but critical on the ground war correspondents.

There’s a lot to investigate and report on from today’s stunning deposition of Les Wexner. But here’s something I can’t get over. I asked Mr. Wexner if the DOJ or FBI ever contacted him to ask him about Epstein and his crimes. He said NO. That’s outrageous and unforgivable.

I got a tip that all over the world, people are using a dead-simple hack to manipulate AI behavior. It turns out changing what AI tells other people can be as easy as writing a blog post *on your own website* I didn’t believe it, so I decided to test it myself www.bbc.com/future/artic...

I hacked ChatGPT and Google's AI – and it only took 20 minutes
I found a way to make AI tell you lies – and I'm not the only one.

An extraordinary paragraph. buff.ly/uH5ykhX
The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they're the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesivebecause of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about "Western civilization," while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.

Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti. "Please get the truth out about our son."
Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti
Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti

“We are heartbroken but also very angry.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact.

I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed.

Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

Worth noting that one reason you’re benefitting so fully from the Star-Tribune’s timely, extensive coverage of unfolding events is that it’s a metro newspaper that hasn’t been systematically starved to further enrich shareholders and executives.

i suppose it makes sense but it is completely demoralizing that we live in a moment where there is more video/photographic evidence (often from multiple angles) than ever before and also a durable system in place for propagandists to gaslight or convince others into not believing their eyes

I recommend not watching the videos, which are chaotic and gut-wrenching, and instead going through Bellingcat's analysis. This man appeared to be zero threat, while the officers were overly-aggressive, agitated, and clearly primed to used lethal force.

Eric Adams is amazing because when he won every media person was leaping over each to go “this is the normal sane leadership that the political left doesn’t understand normal sane Americans crave” and then every day since that Eric Adams has been like “Leprechauns are real and I’m going to cook one”

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I reread it today; nothing in the law allows a president to defund PBS and NPR. In fact, Congress specifically sought to insulate public media from political pressure.

Sackets Harbor, NY is so small that there’s one pre k-12 school with 475 students. Three of those students were disappeared by ICE. Here is a statement published today by school principal Jaime Cook:
<
Jaime Montana Cook is at
Sackets Harbor Central School.

Message from the Sackets Harbor Principal
As the principal of these students, I need to speak plainly.
Our three students who were taken by ICE were doing everything right. They had declared themselves to immigration judges, attended court on their assigned dates, and were following the legal process.
They are not criminals. They have no ties to any criminal activity. They are loved in their classrooms. Their family has worked at the nearby "Old McDonald's" petting zoo and dairy farm for 15 years.
They lived in a house on the same road as a home ICE had a warrant for. The fact that ICE went door to door is unfathomable. The fact that our students were handcuffed and put into the same van as the alleged criminal from down the street is unconscionable. When I think of my third grader's experience, my stomach twists and it is hard to breathe.
We are in shock-and it is that shared shock that has unified our community in the call for our students' release.
We are in direct communication with our students. Let me be clear: they are not
"being medically evaluated." They are not being "questioned as potential victims."
Calling a detention center by another name does not change what it is.
We deserve better than spin and misinformation. My teachers and my students are already hurting.
Please, think about how long every hour feels for a third grader in a detention center.
The wait had already been too long a week ago.
I have no other agenda. Please release my students and their mother back to our community.

Great illustration from the Heritage Foundation about how the push to defund the Department of Education is at its heart an attack on organized labor. The word "union" gets mentioned 22 times in like an 800-word blog!
The Pork Barrel Politics of the Department of Education

There is also a key word search that shows the term "union" gets mentioned 22 timesKey Takeaways
The department is designed to provide material and political benefits to the teachers’ unions, not to improve student outcomes.

Looking at the department’s spending priorities confirms how the department was meant to address the material and political concerns of the unions.

As the pork-barrel politics of the Department of Education are laid bare, the survival of the department will depend on the political influence of the unions.

The architect of Texas' "bounty-hunter" abortion law is now 1) advising school districts book bans then 2) representing those districts when they're sued over the bans. Never forget: The culture war, at heart, is a grift. tinyurl.com/2hkg2pn3
Mitchell, who did not reply to an Axios interview request, conceived of the 2021 Texas law that bans abortions after six weeks — and empowers private citizens to bring lawsuits against those who violate it.
The plaintiffs are represented pro bono by attorneys from Wittliff Cutter in Austin and a San Francisco firm.
Details: Mitchell's rate is $450 per hour, and the total fees paid to his firm include airline, hotel, meal and taxi expenses, per the documents obtained by Axios through a public information request.
