I was doing some yard work this morning when I discovered this little guy. I don’t have any idea what kind of snake it is. 🐍

Looking across a small rock & stick filled creek into a sunbeam illuminating the changing colours of the forest all beneath a brilliant blue sky. The sun is making a late morning appearance casting shadows which highlight the autumn colours on tall skinny maple seeding trees. The forest floor is covered with moss, ivy & bramble all but glowing in the warmth of the moment

The National Hurricane Center on Wednesday morning extended the forecast cone of an ongoing tropical cyclone — Hurricane Rachel — into California. The storm won’t be a hurricane by the time it nears CA this weekend, but it could still present hazards characteristic of a tropical cyclone.
sfchronicle.com
The National Hurricane Center just drew a forecast path for Rachel into California. Is the threat legit?
Strong winds, large waves and storm surge are possible in Orange and San Diego counties, with heavy rain and flash flooding possible in Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Phoenix.

I was at work for 13 hours yesterday and not home until after 10 pm, so naturally I am up before sunrise this morning. Anyway, the first image shows Mars (top), Jupiter (middle), and the star Regulus above the waning crescent moon. 🔭
A wide view of the sky showing Mars at top, and Jupiter in the center. Beneath Jupiter is the star Regulus and below that is this morning’s waning crescent moon. An iPhone image of the waning crescent moon showing earthshine.

For no apparent reason I'm up early this morning, so I took advantage of that to grab quick shots of the Moon and Jupiter. 🔭

A weird thing happened today. I was going through old things and found one on my dad’s old ruler/business cards (left) from about 60 years ago. I texted the image to my sister who was cleaning in her home where at the same time she found an even older one just before she got my text!
