Since we are going out for 10 days next week after, Tropical storm Rachael has cleaned off the site, to evaluate the Ironstone bonebed near the base of our Cretaceous section in eastern Utah for #FossilFriday a few pictures of ankylosaur and iguanodont fossils collected of the surface of the site.

Note: on the Utah state lands PFYC MAP all mapped formations listed Class 3-5 are all grouped together in red to be considered for paleontogical mitigation if there is to be surface disturbance or a significant land transfer in those area.

#ThrowbackThursday 2015 Shot from the Hippodraco type locality at Andrew R C Milner 's Site on the southern border of the proposed Yellow Cat unit of a future Dawn of the Cretaceous Fossil Beds NM. The abandoned well pad at Andrew's Site would be the perfect setting for an interpretation center.

Based research on the terrestrial J-K boundary here in eastern Utah, I'm thinking that the base of the Cretaceous should be lowered into the uppermost Jurassic with the Volgan Isotopic Carbon Excursion VOICE as the best global marker. See www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTwR... for a recent talk on topic.

But as we have been noting, there is a profound faunal turnover among the the Morrison megafauna at the end of the Jurassic, when diplodocids and its diverse large theropods were hit hard and small taxa were barely touched. In North America, an influx of European taxa was critical in its recovery.

Many shark and ray groups went extinct. Reproductive strategies critical. If there was a long interval of time as lin the plankton. Scavengers did better than top predators.
