I recall seeing notes I took in cursive when I was a student, and in a number of cases I had trouble understanding what I had written. One thing I dreaded most when I taught in HS was having to grade essays from students with terrible penmanship- especially if they didn't know the material.

Thanks... I've always had sloppy cursive. These days, if I write on paper, I just print things out. I may have missed it, but the article didn't seem to look at non-cursive writing (printing), & whether it had the same benefits. Cursive does allow greater speed, which is helpful.

Not sure I understand the cursive connection, but taking handwritten notes requires the ability to recognize what's important to know & summarize it as you put it on paper. Summarizing is underrated as a tool for learning. It requires brain power. AI will hurt young learners.

"Marginalized" is being misused in this thread, IMO. "Vulnerable population," based on who ICE is targeting, seems to be a more appropriate term. For the vulnerable populations, uncertainty and a lack of control over their freedom & safety is what Trump, Miller, and ICE are using to intimidate.

Certain groups of people are going to be fearful, intimidated, & decide that avoiding a confrontation is preferable to voting. The ICE thuggery is designed to do this very thing. This is nothing new, BTW...The doctored photo here was circulated in 2016...One of many. There were also tweets.

okay so this anecdote in Margaret's obituary has me crying because this is exactly what it's like being in tech and trying to anticipate failures and having men basically tell you you're being hysterical and then you have to fix it later

She also proposed a software fix to prevent the error happening during a real mission, but she was overruled on the grounds that the highly trained astronauts were never going to make that same mistake. Back in the day, a comment made by a candidate like the one Trump just made about Los Angeles & San Diego (San Francisco??) would've killed a political campaign. W/ Trump, a sitting POTUS, it's just another day at the office, w/ no repercussions, except a few days of ineffectual press coverage.

The problem is that he almost never tells the truth. An occasional, "Trump says this, but facts say he is wrong" works OK w/ someone who attempts to put a spin on the facts. The benefit of the doubt excuse hasn't been applicable to what he says for years. This is why the corporate media sucks.

NYT has now independently corroborated all the major allegations against Susan Collins in the ProPublica report, including that investigators were prepared to move against her and then Trump intervened to shut it down. This put Trump in a position of exceptional and extortionate leverage over her.
