The forecast was totally off and we waited for a few hours for any signs that the blanket of cloud may relent. Nope, pack up and head back up the fell... Only to turn tail 15 minutes later when the odd hint of light started to break through. Back to the original spot and light appeared, but in the end I preferred this earlier version as a shower swept through the valley.

A wall winds its way down a heather-clad hillside, whilst rain approaches in the distance. Lumpy mountains are seen in the distance.

A meadow breathes, wide and green,
its grasses bending in a quiet hymn,
the soft roll of earth flowing toward
a dark crown of pine,
standing like sentinels against the sky.

Beyond, the mountains rise,
snow still clinging to their shoulders,
white veils of winter
resting upon blue stone temples.
They do not shout their glory—
they simply endure,
ancient and steady,
their silence deeper than prayer.

Clouds drift above them,
pillows of light upon heaven’s floor,
casting shadows that move like time itself,
reminding all who look
that nothing is fixed—
not sky, not season, not man.

And yet the land holds steady,
a cathedral of grass, forest, and stone,
where wind is the organ’s breath
and light is the stained glass
shifting upon the altar of earth.

Here, spirit and soil entwine,
and the heart, unbidden, kneels—
finding in the vastness
both humility and home.

On the road leading into Buttermere village, surrounded by fells, is the little Church of St James built in 1840. It was built on a rocky outcrop where the Honister pass and Newlands Pass meet. #LakeDistrict #Stunday #Churches #HistoricBuildings #LandscapePhotography

It was built in 1840 and had later extensions which retained the original character.
My photo shows the church with its bell tower surrounded by a stone wall. The fells behind have low hanging cloud. The sun has broken through and in the distance lights up part of a fell. There is a large area of blue sky. The trees have their autumnal colours.

Before you stretches a sweeping view of Glacier National Park, a landscape that feels both earthly and sacred. In the foreground, a wide meadow of golden grasses lies quiet and open, like a soft welcome mat spread out before the towering mountains. Tall evergreens rise in a dense, dark-green wall at the meadow’s edge, their needles catching the sunlight, whispering in the breeze.

Beyond them, the mountains command the horizon. One peak in particular—broad, angular, and weathered—stands at the center like a timeless guardian, its ridges catching the light in pale gray and silver tones. Smaller jagged peaks flank it, creating a procession of stone that feels like a cathedral of the earth. Above it all, the sky stretches wide and endless, painted in hues of brilliant blue with long, delicate streaks of white cloud—like brushstrokes from a divine hand.
