I miss the convenience of the C-Train. Hopefully Seattle can get its act together before I'm 80.

It's Quieter in the Twilight is a touching portrayal of people who work tirelessly and with devotion. The integrity of their efforts and the power (and fragility) of institutional memory is really well conveyed. Highly recommended. Voyager 1 and 2 both turn 50 next year.

Andrew Haigh never makes the same film twice, and his latest is an absolute gem. Here’s my review of A LONG WINTER.

Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier is excellent. His portfolio continues to strengthen.

I'm leery of such studies extrapolating phase I/II trial results. Those trials very often end up over-representing outcomes in subsequent randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled trials. There will be future gains to document from these therapies without making this type of tenuous projection

Is Industry on HBO just trying to pay homage to the classical pieces from Kubrick movies?

A bike lane and hundreds of affordable homes in Magnolia have both been delayed since 2008 thanks in significant part to SEPA. Getting people out of cars and building new affordable housing in the City are both good for the environment!

Judson's Last Ride
COMMENTARY
By Sean Trende
RCP Staff

Today is a day I've dreaded for over a decade. At around 6:20 a.m., we'll get my oldest son Judson up,give him a bath, put his safety harness on (don't worry, we'll dress him first, and then watch him amble down our driveway to the school bus, as we have almost every school day since fourth grade. He'll go through whatever class activities he has, come to the end of the day, and get ready to ride the bus home, as he has almost every school day since fourth grade. His teachers and aides will wipe their eyes, put him on the bus, and off he'll go, just the same as he's done almost every school day since fourth grade.

It's a next gen calculator. It's going to help shorten some tasks but it won't replace actual human labour. Unfortunately these people are determined to cause much societal hardship trying to force acceptance of the latter instead of embracing the former.

The Sabres need to consider having a goaltender for their games. Especially for the NHL playoffs because I hear the stakes are high.

Almost eight years ago, I wrote for the New Republic that we should ban targeted ads that surveil you across the internet. (newrepublic.com/article/1478...) I'm doing what I can do by banning them from the website I run. prospect.org/2026/04/06/w...

On Friday, MY UNDESIRABLE FRIENDS comes to Mubi. Last summer, I had a long conversation with director Julia Loktev about the film and the lessons she learned about authoritarianism. There are a couple quotes in here I think about all the time.

Two stick out. 1) Requiem for a Dream at the Cedar Lee in Cleveland. My friends came out horrified but I was exhilarated watching it. 2) Forrest Gump at Bankers Hall theatres in Calgary. Me and 2 friends snuck in. It was packed. On our way out, we saw 3 single chairs placed in the aisle. Sorry!
