Here's how grid-scale batteries and pumped hydro charged over the past week… It's interesting to see the patterns throughout the week. There's a lot of background activity as well as periodic moments where the entire fleet appears to store energy at the same time.

The building is constructed from beams of larvikite, a monzonite from southern Norway which is more familiar as decorative cladding because of its iridescent feldspars. However it has a compressive strength 3x that of concrete. This is the 1st building to use larvikite structurally in 100 years
Close up of the larvikite. A coarse grained intrusive igneous rock composed of blocky perthite feldspars with interstitial magic phase. The surface is stained red with ochre. Some of the blocks show nice detailing with a design of scrolls and curlicues in very shallow relief

Closeup of a cluster of dark pebbles embedded in a rock surface. Image taken by the Mars Perseverance Rover on Sol 1982 (yestersol). flic.kr/p/2sBoAgx
A dusty rock. The left side has lighter bits in a gray matrix. The right side is much lighter with darker mottling and is closer to the camera and mostly out of focus. In the center is a cluster of dark pebbles that are somewhat embedded in the light toned rock. The cluster (and a few similar, but smaller clusters) seems to sit in a small pocket seeming to indicate that they are more resistant to erosion than the surrounding white matrix.

🧪Sediments usually have a lower density than halite (salt), but after continuous loading sediment, that’s when salt tectonics begins. The underlying principle of salt tectonics- salt moves from zones of higher load to zones of lower load, and the salt begins to flow, squeezing thru fractures… 👇🏼

Small scale cross bedding in Carboniferous fine grained sandstone. The dark partitions are fosslised vegetational matter. This apparently caused planes of weakness in the rock. This part of the quarry became disused quite quickly as a result.

Marsrover Perseverance Mastcam-Z Sol 913 - From Simeon Schmauß (stim3on.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/2p3yb6q
Mastcam-Z captured this panorama of the Mandu Wall region at noon on Sol 913.

This region is part of the Margin Carbonate Unit in Jezero Crater, the team hopes that these rocks will give insights about the climatic history on Mars as well as preserve traces of potential past life.

The image is a combination of 60 Mastcam-Z 100mm images and two Navcam frames from two sols earlier for the surrounding region.
The colors are calibrated for natural color appearance as the human eye would see it.
