The best places to learn about Tolkien’s conlangs are scrungly websites with bad formatting created in 2004 and never updated since.

Good god, definitely read that whole thread Never figured I'd see the day I gotta jump ship from *all of Google* (or at least not in this decade) but if this clepto AI bullshit ain't undone real quick it might finally be time to look around for less invasive alternatives to all of it

Resurfacing this old wisdom imparted by a sage internet denizen of yore, as we embark on this new Bluesky journey together:

"wow you blocked me just cuz I disagreed with you???"

yes. Yes, exactly. This is a social media site. I come here to look at pictures of birds and shit post with my friends. This is not a town hall merging; I am not your elected official. I do not owe you my energy, my space, or my time. You and I are strangers that use the same website. I can block you for literally any reasons and that's okay. Take a deep breath. Block me too. You'll feel better.

Remain eternally angry that AT LEAST six years ago I started pitching multiple editors about a looming insurance crisis in California and was told it wasn't a real story, or if it was it would affect a small number of people, and even if then, it would be a negligible policy issue.

For-profit "health" insurance companies are evil at their core, don't deserve to be around, and have no right to exist. United Healthcare made a doctor scrub out of surgery, to confirm that a patient with breast cancer actually needed the treatment (that they already got "prior authorization" for).

Yesterday I posted about the Romance words for "to want". Spanish and Portuguese use 'querer' instead of a descendant of Latin *volēre. What would *volēre have become if it had undergone the sound changes that occurred in these two languages? Listen to its hypothetical modern outcomes:

$1,131,794,901 That's how much Big Oil has spent over the last 30 years paying off Congress to look the other way on climate action while the planet burns. Well, the planet is burning. Don't let them look away.

For the last 5 years, LAPD has received 3x the budget of LAFD. The department that coordinates these incredible emergency responses, the Emergency Management Department, gets about $4million - less than .1% of LAPD’s budget. When you talk to people offline about these fires, drop that in.

Screenshot of LA budget pie chart 2025 with fire at 15.2% and police 43%

Wiktionary says "Wallachian herdsmen are credited with having invented a new form of castration." I have no clue how accurate this is but at least it's an answer. Sidenote: German "Wallach" is also related to English "Wales". Do with this info what you will.
