#PortfolioDay I'm José and I'm a Chilean illustrator and graphic designer inspired by the nostalgia of 80s and 90s Japanese anime and video games. My work explores pop culture, science fiction and highlights the strength and charm of female characters.✨

Had to stop by the mural. Still miss you goat. Etika inspired me as a creator, but he also reminds me to take care of myself. The internet can be cruel, and dark thoughts creep in. He taught me not to let them win, and to choose love over hate. Hope the same for all of you ❤️

I'm losing my mind trying to develop a skill system that's not about spending XP points, but about actually discovering and developing skills and faculties ONLY through play (with multiple ways of doing so) It's starting to click guys 😭!!!

Need more developers making these decomps to take stances like this, so tired of lazy assholes vibe coding their decomps because they don't give a shit about their own product.

Decided to write a blog post for once instead of a long ass thread. otherheaven.net/blog/wheelof... Glad I did 😌, there was no way I was fitting 3000 words onto this platform. It's about those Game Recomps and AI Game Mashups that have popped up recently. Sorry for the mess.

Am I saying to make every weapon spawn a grav lift upon use? Yes, unironically (this was ironic I'm sorry, don't do it). But it could also mean just focus more on weapon knockback and fixing the glitch where a loose non-static object touches my foot and I get sent to super-hell in 1 frame. (4/2)

This wasn't something that Bungie had a fantastic grasp on either, despite the way we look back at their time with the franchise. Every game had 2-6 "good" maps then every other map was vetoed out. I think the design philosophy is why, you can feel when those strengths aren't being used. (3/2)

To me, Halo is a Physics Sandbox. If you treat it like it's a Arena Shooter, it's going to suffer and if you design it like it's a comp FPS, then you're gonna make dogshit. A Halo game that embraces a box hitting you from across the map and killing you is gonna be the best Halo game imo. (2/2)

Since the news that Activation has gobbled up the Halo IP, it has made me reflect on why Halo seems like such a cursed franchise since Reach, and of course it's not a studio thing. Studio culture is as fake as the people who pretend we still work in flat creative structures and not hierarchies.(1/2)

Just had a random flash of nostalgia for 2016 where I finally sat down to play my legit favorite Final Fantasy game and one of my top 5 games of all time, and it's not even close. I miss it, but I'm also kinda glad I stopped before it apparently got bad 💀 Special times.

It feels like common sense now, but adding a delay between a movement animation and the input actually isn't a horrible thing. Mind you, it's not great across the board. CP77's jumping and dashing are probably a bad fit for my game. The vault is very simple too. But I def got something valuable here

Was playing Cyberpunk 2077 (alongside Far Cry 2) to get a feel for first person driving, and though I'm not sure I got anything that valuable from it, I did get a lot from the movement. There's small nuances in things like the slide that grant it weight and give you finer control after it ends.

Just caught up on the Cara situation and it's insane how legitimately disgusting some of these scrapists behave. But I also recognize that no amount of legislation can guard against what is essentially a mudslide. The only real solution is a poisoned output. Glaze and other tech need a real boost.

This stuff is grim, but I guess I glossed over the positive. You still have a right to choose. I don't know if that's enough, but it's better than nothing I suppose. 🧵 done.

So where do we end up with this, not as individual people but as groups. What's our relationship with not just the tool, but the people who purchase our work and are willing to consume the products of the tool? What will be our relationship with, what is for some, their work & passion?

Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
But Ai is more than individual choices. It's something that soaks into our infrastructure and industries. The hellish amount of detective work required to sus it out is just increasing and more are making it past the filters. We're already in a post-truth world and this ain't helping.
100
Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
how do we live with it? That's where I've ended up. I still don't have a use for AI in any of my work. I'm programming in a less than popular engine, with an unconventional art style that's always changing and evolving, writing a world that doesn't exist. AI is quite literally useless for me.

Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
AI is useful. It is not *that* useful. Next token prediction is not emergent or creative. It cannot do any job that isn't just pattern matching. But that's not the messaging going around and there are consequences for that poor communication. The genie is out of the bottle. AI isn't going away. So-

Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
Then what's to be done? What are we searching for or hoping to guard against? Integrity and passion? A more engaged audience? The simple ability to earn a living? The lens in which this industry works right now is broken, everyone can feel it, but even I'm stumped.

Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
I'm cutting out a lot of nuance here to fit into the 300 character window. The report was 3,800 "more committed than normal" Steam players But I think numbers like these is data producers already have access to. There's a reason why AI is pushed regardless of developer wishes.

Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
When all the majority of players are getting from this fragmented and passionate core of prosumers are the words and not the message, it makes sense that what used to be an anti-ai tidal wave has weakened to a whisper. Not that 1/3rd is a whisper, but that's a majority drop. We are the minority now.
100
Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
Think of culture like a pill in water. It has a concentrated source, but the further the sentiments spread the more meaningless and fragmented they become. The bitter medicine here is the majority of the Anti-AI crowd don't have a reason *why* they are fighting. And thus are easier to flip.
100
Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
When we think of the culture of gamers that fights back against AI, I'm of the belief that it's this fragment of prosumers. Gamers who are scratching the surface of game development with their knowledge and have cultivated a respect of the medium itself. But it really is a *fragment*.
110
Luther @otherheaven.net · 08/07/2026
This has been the case for a while now, but not only are we split along lines of medium- Artists, Programmers, Writers, and Musicians all have different positions on the line graph of what AI is doing and if it's okay. But the audience split has grown beyond Casual vs Pro vs Hardcore circa (2007ish)

Fucking grim www.gamesradar.com/games/survey... There's a broader conversation here of *why* we create, *what* we create, and *who* we create for, but for this context, I think the (cultural) who is most important. Consumers are not Gamers. Hell, even gamer is a generalization. (🧵 I guess)
gamesradar.com
Survey finds only 31% of Steam users have a problem with AI in games, with 43% totally fine with it
Only 8% said they wouldn't play a game with AI under any circumstance

But it feels like Divine Machinery is more of a jazz fusion-type thing if that makes sense. It's still the God of xyz scripture, but it's stapled onto machinery or embedded within it. It's not that the pattern of wires is the god. It's the Jesus statue inside the chassis. Not my thing but cool 2/2

Luther @otherheaven.net · 06/07/2026
Just stumbled across the new Divine Machinery aesthetic and it's not quite what I thought it'd be. We've had memes about the 72 demons from King Solomon's Ars Goetia being bound by the traces of a circuit board and we've also had plenty of Deus Ex Machina. Machine God stuff. 1/2

I really don't talk alot about the stuff I'm building haha. These are for the Grimheart Project. I'm still in the prototyping phase, but I can get 1000 creatures on screen with over 500 fps, so I think I'm doing okay for now. :)

This is using a feature called Canvas. A Canvas is a type of file that you can make by RMB in the explorer. You'll know a file is a Canvas because it'll have a little tag beside it. From there, it's kinda self-explanatory, you make cards (or link files to cards) and draw arrows.
