Oh also I might be crazy but I feel like the Resident Evil movie was incredibly similar to Iron Lung in a bunch of ways. Especially the pacing and narrative structure. And I think it had similar strengths and weaknesses.

So having seen Barbarian, Resident Evil was exactly what I expected, in that the first half is utterly immaculate and the second half is... good. It's fine. And then at a random point they run out of script and the movie ends. Overall pretty great but definitely lopsided.

Gonna go see the new Resident Evil movie today. Of course it won't be a TRUE Resident Evil movie without Alice, but I'll make do.

I'm playing through Link's Awakening for the first time (the gbc version) and while I'm ashamed to admit that I've given in and looked at a walkthrough a few times, almost every time I've been like "oh, I never would have figured that out"

I have some minor problems with the Miyoo Mini (mine is ver2 iirc), but it's really hard to argue with OnionOS and its quick boot up time + autosave/autoload feature. Makes it one of the most usable pocket handhelds I own, so long as you don't need the shoulder buttons.

By all accounts this thing is outdated, underpowered, and has a poor battery life, but I really wanted one anyway. It just looks so cool, and it's probably about the thinnest emulation handheld you can buy. I'll probably use it mostly for gb/gbc (TrimUI Model S)

I hear the Hellraiser game is looking pretty good? I haven't played the demo since I'm already planning on buying the full thing, so long as it's not completely borked on release.

Saw someone calling Rob Zombie's Halloween II the worst horror film ever made. I hate RZ's H2, but this made me realoze I'm much more charitable now to ideas so individualist they're bad, in an age where "having ideas" means "chat, generate me a Marvel movie starring Bad Luck Brian"

Found these screenshots while I was looking for something else. From some experiments with Godot's MultiMesh node, which can render a shocking number of duplicate meshes at once. You have to view the first one in fullscreen to see what I mean.

I signed up to get a Steam Frame but tbh it's mostly motivated by wanting a modern VR headset that isn't infected with meta measles. Seems like a bit of a lukewarm proposition otherwise, unfortunately.

I've seen a few people talk about a generational battle between millennials and Gen z and I really don't get it. Maybe it depends on who you talk to but most of the gen z / older gen alpha people I interact with seem like they have a better grasp of things than a lot of people my age.

So, maybe a bit of a blunt question, but does anyone regularly play pico8 games or is it mostly a "for devs" thing? I've been messing with it for a few days and I might actually make something in the future. It brings me back to my Qbasic days (but much less frustrating lol)

Among our big launch-day stuff is an op-ed I wrote on the (ongoing) industry crash, and why you should be worried... but also hopeful for the future. It's gonna be rough, but not apocalyptic. The games industry is going to get weird, but it's not going anywhere. 100+ PC releases a day will continue

I got the Ambernic RG SP and love everything about it except the firmware. I tried Rocknix and liked it but compatibility seemed a bit spotty. I eventually had to revert back to stock because save states broke.

Adventure for the Atari 2600 is funny because on the first difficulty it's like oh yeah quaint little precursor to The Legend of Zelda, and on subsequent difficulties it's a completely batshit (pun intended) insane fever dream.

It was Gloomwood's early access anniversary this weekend, and I'm very grateful for everyone who has supported the game over these years. I know the craving for the bank update (and eventual 1.0) is high. We're working on it. For now, here's a small tease of the bank:

I played a bit of Max Payne for the GBA last night, and it's weirdly great. After some practice it actually plays really well, and they even managed to capture the specific combat style of the og Max Payne: each encounter feels like a quick dance of death that could go either way at any moment.

I have no idea what will happen in the coming decade, but my response to the rapid acceleration of the pace of the game industry (AI is just part of that) has been to start trying to slow down. I'm likely going to get buried for a few years but I really don't think this pace can last forever.

I know that this whole thing is a shameless social media psy op to push a completely nothing gimmick game, and I'm really mad that at 36 years old "$5 for press button for knockoff Daisy boobs bounce" is still very compelling pitch that I'm considering.

I've played a bit of this and intend to play more. It's a clever and very funny riff on unfair rage games that deserves more than the single review it has. If you have the same "Dark Souls is a Wile E Coyote bit" sense of humor as me, check it out. store.steampowered.com/app/4266190/...

Indie games feel like they're in a weird spot right now, because in some ways design is returning to an almost arcade-like simplicity, but then in other ways game design practices are more complex than they've ever been.

Made a faked god ray object styled after the ones seen in Diablo 2. I'm trying to steer B.U.G.B.I.T.E away from being too heavily referential with stuff like this, but a good technique is a good technique!

Adventure for the Atari 2600, an early adopter of the "bugs are features" philosophy. It's not a collision issue, it's the magic not working!

It's weird to be a big fan of Dark Souls 1+2 and Elden Ring and also not have much knowledge of newer soulslikes, because I'm seeing people say that Mortal Shell 2 needs balance patches and I'm like soulslikes have balance?? When did that happen??
