A few furniture items for me lately have required actual drilling in the middle. It's like they got tired of drilling holes for hex bolts and just left that part for the customer, too.

This is a disaster. The ethics committee in Denmark that approved the Guinea-Bissau study which will withhold the birth dose of HepB vaccine “had never considered medical studies before but it changed the rules in order to vote on this one”. Four members of the committee have resigned in protest.

Digitalization of knowledge got obscured by SEO before getting snuffed out by AI. It's all fake stuff that seems real, and it's a nightmare.

It's reasonable that if you can't keep the good, then Sony can't keep the money. Just return the money with interest once the product is unavailable.

Analyzing relative popularity from this data is just not valid, if it is from a survey that asks approve or disapprove for each entity. You'd need a survey where each respondent scored all entities with a scale like -100 to +100; then the scores could be compared. Was that study design like that?

Happily, fixing this would also fix the Electoral College. However, it could worsen gerrymandering. Proportional representation is a solution.

Happy World Ocean Day! The ocean is the heart of our life support system, without which we’d all be dead. It’s taken up >90% of the heat from global warming and 30% of our CO₂ emissions. In return, we give it 11 million tonnes of plastic annually, which animals ingest and also become entangled in.

Hilarious and deeply insightful writing by @brianphillips.lol.
Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.

because I know y’all can’t click and read
1. "Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing.
Speech is the secondary or overlaid function.
Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs.
2. Drowning people's mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people's mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.
3. Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water's surface.
Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.
4. Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.
5. From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people's bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs."

This really goes to the central sin of NYT, which is that they'll apply varying standards to ensure narratives slightly opposite to the truth: An obscure Dem discrepancy becomes a persistent scandal. A Rep pattern of insanity and crime becomes a political maneuver.

Multi-member districts would obviate gerrymandering. You have to call for a specific reform like that to start the consensus-building. "Standing up" is vague; push a plan!
000
oseth.bsky.social @oseth.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
For phase 2, the consensus should be building now for multi-member districts to make gerrymandering obsolete. Fight fire with fire now, and then solve it for good.

oseth.bsky.social @oseth.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
This really shouldn't require a constitutional amendment, as it was wrongly decided. It could be fixed by statute alone: reconstituting the flawed court, regulating when courts can overturn laws, anonymizing political donations, and/or disallowing corporate political expenditures.

I must be missing something, and this is a genuine question: aren't ballots transported to county boards of election for tabulating? It would be impossible to get them all, but what would happen if just several urban ones were targeted?
