Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 22/11/2025We've got the tools, we know how to apply them, we just need to start using them. 140
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 22/11/2025I was quite impressed by how well the ventilation was working given the age of the building and the amount of people. Of course things can always be improved, but everyone worked hard to get there. 020
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 22/11/2025They have. It's not a simple feast, firstly sourcing high capacity filters, then installing them safely in strategic places and lastly at close range when people get together they won't do much to stop transmission. 110

Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 18/11/2025There's some meaning beyond literal translation, I guess similar to dipstick or whatever (don't quote me, no native English speaker and known to get things wrong 🙄) 110
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 18/11/2025Not quite, Babb is derived from bappig which means sticky in the most unpleasant way. Dog poop to your shoe sticky level. Sack alone is a mild swear, a bit like a mild form of asshole. So it's a bit like a very unpleasant person sticking to you and getting on your nerves? 110
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 18/11/2025In Hesse 'Babbsack', in the North 'Torfkopp'. Not sure about the deep south but there'll be plenty to pick from. For advanced nastiness check the Austrian vocabulary as they really excel at this 110

Someone even thinks I leafleted schools to scare boys into getting vaccinated! That may just sound silly, but misinformation and disinformation like this means some people want me and others like me jailed or even dead. It’s heartbreaking. 1512333

My conservation friends' nesting box survived Wellington's wild storm perfectly and a Ruru (tiny owl) sheltered in it. Then one started making a nest! There's a camera inside now, too. The feeds aren't public but here's how they're doing. 614332

Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025@thomasnash.bsky.social you are chairing the transport committee and were present during my presentation. It's extremely disappointing to see so much inaction and authorities passing the bucket instead of taking responsibilities. Other municipalities can provide good ventilation on public transport.thomasnash.bsky.socialThomas Nash (@thomasnash.bsky.social)Wellington Regional Councillor and Transport Chair, Te Pane Matua Taiao Greater Wellington. Adjunct Lecturer Massey University. 030
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025And worse: GW is currently procuring new trains, and there are no sufficient requirements for ventilation for the new trains. Instead they just require UIC 553 which targets 5000ppm CO2. 100
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025So it looks like everyone is passing the bucket and nobody is taking responsibility. I'm not a lawyer but from my understanding GW has the ultimate responsibility for H&S, but as far as I an tell there's no tangible action - not even data collection to know the extent of the issue. 100
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025Besides that, there are plenty of studies that all demonstrate that the observed CO2 concentrations are not only inacceptable for public health but impacting the driver's cognitive capacities similar to a drunk driver. How is that acceptable? 100
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025I received a response from Metlink, which basically explained that drivers cannot control the aircon or even open windows any longer, and a number of excuses why without national standards they won't pursue any engineering solutions because it's "too hard". 100
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025I have presented this to GW transport committee in Feb/24 and suggested some easy and cost effective work arounds while engineering solutions are being developed 110
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025Including that 'PCBUs “must minimise risks to health and safety, so far as is reasonably practicable, by taking one or more that is the most appropriate and effective taking into account the nature of the risk”' Yet, passengers are only left with the least effective 'last line of defence' (masks) 100
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025MoH also recommend a target of <800ppm CO2 or 5ACh for procurement of new buses and reminded Metlink of the 'Hierarchy of control measures'. 110
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025Which isn't correct - NZ has regulations that apply - to drivers and passengers. Metlink has asked Ministry of Health for guidance and were given standards and exposure limits, told that these apply public transport, including to passengers. 100
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 04/07/2025Thanks for sharing your data. Sadly this isn't uncommon, or unknown by GW/Metlink. There have been a number of studies and investigations into this, but without any meaningful action (as as as I can tell). Instead Metlink and GW seem to be hiding behind a 'lack of national standards'. 110

Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 17/06/2025Care to explain why? The filter medium underneath is still intact, and there's no breathing through this area because of the foam seal under the nose bridge. Haven't seen any MRI safe masks here so curious about any pointers thanks. 200
Oliver Seiler @oseiler.bsky.social · 16/06/2025I've also managed to pry the metal strip loose using long tweezers trough a smaller cut on both ends and remove it, which allows the plastic clip to be threaded in from the side and removes the need to sew close the long cut, but it's quite fiddly and easy to rip the thin top layer. 010
