I once came upon Reddit comments from his step-daughter a two years ago, she was in her mid 20s. James was once a really normal guy and decent step-father. His step-daughter stopped talking to him in 2021. She misses the old "Jim" she grew up with.

Weirdly, this is my take. Columbus Day was a recent invention of political lobbying, and I support legal/social retirement of the designation and recognition. It simply should be retired, and move on.

It's a tool of peace and love meditating on the some of the most important aspects of Jesus, and shouldn't be weaponized. And yes I know Pope Leo XIII from over a century ago called it a "weapon," but it's been co-opted and abused by right wing propaganda.

ran into a woman at Mass who I distinctly remember from my time as a Deacon at St Thomas Moore. Her family was experiencing weird stuff. Was unsure of origin, but did a house blessing. She said to me in tears “Father, you have no idea how much our lives turned around to God after that day” 😭😭
