ran into a woman at Mass who I distinctly remember from my time as a Deacon at St Thomas Moore. Her family was experiencing weird stuff. Was unsure of origin, but did a house blessing. She said to me in tears “Father, you have no idea how much our lives turned around to God after that day” 😭😭

The common good includes protecting the stability of family life, for by it the community is sustained on a most basic level; thus deportation policies that indiscriminately and brutally disrupt family life undermine the good of human society. The law itself should take this into account.

The biggest problem with integralism, I think, is they just want a moral justification for fascism. They don't want a Catholic state in order to promote virtue, evangelization, and care for the needy. They aren't even assuading a guilty conscience. They want it to be praised for pious aesthetics

Yeah… Sheen’s writing across world war 2 is extremely pessimistic about war. He’s pretty consistent about that. Sheen got adopted by the right but he was pretty normal. mid-century American Catholicism is a different animal than what we’re all familiar with now and we kind of forget.
