The imperial core has gained $15 trillion through exorbitant privilege since 1970, getting higher returns on foreign assets than what they pay on foreign debt. This privilege is financed by transfers from the global South, outstripping aid flows many times over.

Well said. The other issue is that these laymen data hounds are not asking the questions a scientist should ask when analyzing data. It’s good practice to ask if the questions answered by the data are really the right questions. The 2008 Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission is a good example.

What's being refered to as the white working class isn't a class. Pollsters define "white working class" as white voters without a four-year college degree. It says nothing about their relation to the means of production.

Domestic pollution fell due to industrial collapse, but Romania’s carbon footprint actually increased from 3.6 tonnes per capita (1999) to 4.1 tonnes (2023). The guardian article only uses Territorial Emissions. There has been no decoupling unfortunately. timotheeparrique.com/a-response-t...

The solution is to reclaim democratic control over the means of production, overcome the capitalist law of value, and organize production around social and ecological goals (in other words, socialism). This must include, and indeed is enabled by, degrowing damaging and unnecessary production.
