A teacher in Warrick County is speaking out after Indiana Governor Mike Braun removed Dolly Parton’s “Imagination Library” from the state’s budget.

Imagination Library is a book-gifting program for children under 5 in hopes of fostering early literacy.

With the pending removal from the state’s budget, the program will have no funding to get books into the hands of families.

I want to point out that this is NOT a buy-out! Those who take the offer simply get permission to telework through September, at which point they lose their jobs. Media coverage of the details has been pretty misleading.

If you choose not to continue in your current role in the federal workforce, we thank you for your service to your country and you will be provided with a dignified, fair departure from the federal government utilizing a deferred resignation program. This program begins effective January 28 and is available to all federal employees until February 6. If you resign under this program, you will retain all pay and benefits regardless of your daily workload and will be exempted from all applicable in-person work requirements until September 30, 2025 (or earlier if you choose to accelerate your resignation for any reason). You can get screens for casement windows. The screens sit on the inside; if the windows open by you pushing them (instead of turning a crank handle on the inside of the window), you can get retractable versions.

A few things that made me feel better about Project95 winding down: 1) They will be putting their stock on sale—stock up! Masks don’t go bad. 2) They will be leaving us with a list of suggested vendors. 3) Masks are necessary to many industries. They will not disappear.

Unless you work someplace where you can get food deeply discounted or free, give money. Food pantries can buy food more cheaply than your average donor can. This also lets them buy what they know their patrons NEED (including personal hygiene products, diapers, pet food, etc.).
