I did a little bit of singing last night (with the help of @airanw.bsky.social) at the Ethical Humanist Society’s Saturday Sound Check. My favorite jazz joke bombed. No one understands John Cage these days.

There were more men in a single documented gang rape at one school than the number of competitive trans athletes nationally. But I’ve heard a lot more politicians being asked about protecting girls from one of these scenarios and not another… I’ll let you guess which is which.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.

The Democrats defend the Kennedy Center but not trans people.

The Democratic Party has let a consulting industry exploit elderly donors in its name, wreck its reputation and finances in the process, and walk away rich whether the party wins or loses. When a mirror is held up, the instinct is to break the glass rather than look. On why the press looks away:

I'm sure she was comfortable (& that's good!). But she just relentlessly helped. It's not that difficult. Love. Care. Help. 💚🌸

The fundraising texts you delete are working on someone. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. An 85yo in Ohio gave more than double the value of his home. A 91yo in an Indianapolis senior facility gave 25K times. The DCCC/DSCC don’t just tolerate the spammers who exploit seniors. They take part.

None of it is ok. No one solution works for all groups. We need more options, more solutions, no monolithic “everyone should do this” decrees. I don’t think we’re disagreeing here.

Kelly Wright @omnikel.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
Yeah, that’s on me. I read that wrong. I WOULD say bikes are not always the solution, cars are not always the solution, transit is not always the solution. There isn’t one solution that works for every community or individual.
110
Kelly Wright @omnikel.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
Are you reading my posts? I said I don’t think there’s one blanket solution. But as a person whose body won’t let them bike everywhere all the time, I feel pretty dismissed by people who just yell “bikes!” as the solution to all our woes.

300
Kelly Wright @omnikel.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
But as the OP is saying, there are lots of communities where bikes and even public transit aren’t really practical. I don’t think any blanket solution will work for each person/every community.
300
Kelly Wright @omnikel.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
Uh, no. I wouldn’t say that. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution here. Personally, I’d like to see us prioritize public transit that is accessible for people with disabilities, along with supporting infrastructure for bicycles and building walkable communities.

Kelly Wright @omnikel.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
This is also an accessibility issue. Bikes will never be a good transportation option for some people.

She won an exemption from using AI at her tech job. The Pope's remarks could fuel similar appeals.
Legal experts say employers must take AI-related religious objections seriously, as a 2023 ruling raised the bar for denying such accommodations.

Here's the serious bit for anyone who'd rather skip the 4000 words of jokes
Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them. (
There are things in the world that are more important than money. The fact that you seem not to believe this, that you seem to think any motive beyond ruthless acquisitiveness is fake, dishonest, or childish, is the heart of your problem. Your attitude is not by any means unique to tech, but the
