Our top takeaways from @iea.org’s latest #WorldEnergyOutlook: ⛰️Peak fossil fuel demand is coming, contrary to oil & gas producer narratives, ☀️Renewables are the fastest-growing source of energy, 💰Net zero is cheaper than fossil fuel dependence. 🔎 www.iea.org/reports/worl... 🧵1/10

The Production Gap Report 2025, released today, shows fossil fuel expansion is still accelerating. Major producers such as COP30 host Brazil, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and the US are driving some of the world’s biggest increases, mostly to boost exports, even as global demand growth slows.

🚨 OUT NOW! Our new @science.org study led by @kohrathefog.bsky.social is the first to comprehensively quantify the health impacts of and inequities in outdoor air pollution exposure across all stages of the US oil and gas lifecycle: extraction ➡️ transport/storage ➡️ refining/processing ➡️ end-use. 🧵

IEA: Oil still on track to peak by 2030; oil for fuel to peak in 2027 "annual growth slows…to just a trickle over the next several years, with a small decline expected in 2030, based on today’s policy settings and market trends" Here are some of the most striking charts 🧵 1/8

📣New Report | Petrobras accounts for more than half of planned oil & gas expansion in Brazil, including some of the riskiest frontier projects. Up to 85% of oil from its new projects isn’t economically viable in a 1.5°C world. 📗 www.iisd.org/publications/report/brazil-petrobras-oil-gas-expansion

Gorgon is the world's largest #CCS project. It's attached to an LNG facility that was approved based on Chevron's promise to capture 80% of emissions Not only has Gorgon never achieved that, it's performance has decreased year over year - capturing just 30% last year ieefa.org/resources/go...

How much longer can we keep using the IPCC AR6 1.5°C scenarios (limited overshoot) for percentage reductions, net zero years, etc, given that we are currently not even remotely on track? Starting today, the percentage reductions will be higher, net zero year earlier (all else equal).

Given how hard it was to get rich countries to give just $300 billion a year to the developing world to decarbonize and deal with the impacts of extreme weather, how will we ever deploy CO₂ removal (CDR), which will cost trillions of dollars every year and mainly benefit the developing world?
