This was a *THRILLING* interview. Cory has so much to say on AI, workers rights, software freedom, and so on. It's refreshing to hear nuanced, realistic views beyond "ai good" and "ai bad". Give it a listen!

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

I really don't know why, but when I land on a web site that has a little bit of unintentional horizontal play, it distresses me, and instead of reading the article or page, I end up searching for why the page has overshot the width of my page. Such a terrible habit. Stupid developer brain.

Am I the only one who thinks, actually the alert system should be used for something more useful than "you're about to die lol"? Sure it's common sense that the country is dry and fire is bad, but people are still using BBQs and camping stoves and smoking cigarettes so it's clearly not so common. 🤷🏻‍♂️

jj absorb now lets you interactively choose which hunks from the source to consider for absorption. This is useful when you only want to absorb part of a commit without first splitting it. Any hunks that are not selected or cannot be absorbed remain in the source commit.

I'm so burnt out from AI era velocity, slop posts, bots and the attention economy, that I've recently got a balance phone. It's black & white, doesn't allow social, and has reduced motion on by default. It's wonderful. But actively avoiding being online does leave me feeling weird about my job.

@acemarke.dev Crazy idea but I wonder if it would make sense to have a compiler for selectors that automatically memoizes, like how React Compiler. So you don't have to manually optimize e.g. with `createSelector`. Is this something you've thought about before?

@en-js.bsky.social 👋 If you were building an SPA today in React (e.g. a dashboard), how would you do state management? Imagining that much of the state needs to be shared by many components. Context + React Compiler? 1 or many useSyncExternalStores? State library? Etc.

I'm just so bored of talking about AI. It's like listening to vapers tell me how delicious their flavoured poison is. Did you ever meet someone at university who'd just tried drugs for the first time? Listening to a stoner ramble on about their mystic crystal revelations is amusing for the first five minutes, but quickly gets tiresome. Wow! You got your little computer friend to automate calling …

The problem with being a person who is good at something like content operations, is that if I do my job well, everything runs smoothly and my work is invisible. I'm not particularly career-minded, and just like things to be good, but I wish for this type of impact was more valued.

When they said tech jobs would be lost to AI, they meant we’d be replaced by AI. What we are seeing is jobs being lost to bad decisions to invest in AI that don’t work out. So the company loses money because of AI. AI is costing jobs but not replacing them - just failing to deliver results.
