It’s siesta nice that LinkedIn puts that little Premium icon next to people who for some reason paid for business Facebook. Really lets you know who’s a good decision maker and who isn’t.

Next week I head to Ireland for Rebase, a gathering where creators, makers, founders, and, yes, investors meet to talk about what’s next in record of tech. I’ll be cohosting a salon on why community is so important to success. We’ll see how it goes :)

I’ve been using a gen3 iPod nano lately & here’s a few things I’ve noticed 1) 3.5mm direct audio rules over Bluetooth 2) having choice takes relearning: you need to actively direct your music, which is freeing but freedom comes at a cost 3) Listening to full albums is always a superior experience

Other than @matty.wtf who was a big Urge Overkill fan? Just listened to the classic No Alternative compilation album and their song, “Take a Walk” is still relevant and maybe more people should hear it. open.spotify.com/track/0pcuvM...

It is very rich that these people are suggesting there has been a "death of expertise" when the technologies and institutions they promote are premised on just that.

The environmental damage is well documented at this point. I think the status of data centers as focal points of economic damage merits a little more expansion: www.wired.com/story/the-ai...
Screencap of linked article:

Beyond online outcry, more people are starting to protest against the building of data centers that power these AI tools. “There's a lot of pushback coalescing around data centers," says Emily Bender, coauthor of The AI Con. "Data centers are important because they are focal points of environmental and economic damage.” Americans across the political spectrum have recently united in these data center protests.

Most American workers will never be able to bootstrap their ideas. It takes a level of financial safety to achieve that. AI does not level that playing field, it makes it worse by adding additional cost to the already costly world of chasing your (“American”) dream

Sometimes you need a reminder of the importance of clean water. We had a water main break that messed up the water on our street for about 12 hours. Not a long time, but long enough MJ to recognize the importance of water and indoor plumbing.

I eventually gave up on looking for a new devrel role because I don't want to be measured on how successful I am at attracting people to the product. that's not where my expertise lies, but that's how most companies think of the job. they want you to get out there and build a community for them

a fun thing to do when you're talking to a recruiter about a devrel role is ask about the reporting chain. in my experience it's almost always considered a marketing function that reports up to the CMO. my former employer is the one exception dev marketing is important but it's not what I do

One thing automation has always made us do is confront "did a person need to be doing this in the first place?" AI is providing an interesting spread of "Fucking hell yes, yikes, look at that!" and "no, sweet Cthulhu, what's wrong with you?" answers that middle management may not always love.

There is a lot of confusion about what exactly a Developer Advocate is, but often that is eased when we look at what a Developer Advocate is not. Of course, that list can be just as long. We are not People Pleasers.
