After Rilke’s sudden death at the end of 1926, Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva wrote two works addressed to Rilke that sit among the great European modernist poems. You can read my translations of them and a creative essay in Tsvetaeva ‘27 @pavilionpoetry.bsky.social

The cut bled, the pain was sharp: my terror had passed its climax; other feelings succeeded. "Wicked and cruel boy!" I said. "You are like a murderer--you are like a slave-driver--you are like the Roman emperors!" C1- Jane Eyre #Brontefest Day 1

This book is both lyrical and tells a unique and rather sad story of migration. As the world rebuilds its walls, those of us with families elsewhere become ever so trapped and disconnected. It's good to have these poems for companionship and solace.

Hello, Brontë sister readers -- #brontefest will finally start on Sept 28! A bit of information: We'll read all three sisters' novels, starting with Charlotte's Jane Eyre. We'll read about 50-60 pages a week with a flexible schedule; there will be breaks between books. All are welcome to join us!
