Irish plans to exempt processing of your data for AI from the GDPR are "not in line with the Charter of Fundamental Rights"; they amount to an "illegal change of primary law"; they "exempt AI from the guarantees in the Treaties and render them largely meaningless". Damning, from the leading expert.

This is insanity. Irish Presidency's draft text of amendments to the GDPR allows training & operation of any AI without safeguards & tough legal basis (under "legitimate interest" a company claims what it is doing is OK. Up to you to find out and challenge in court). This is a free pass for US Tech.

Unpaywalled version of the story. This kind of abuse is so common that in the US it's called "running a plate for a date". www.rte.ie/news/courts/...
The investigation involved the seizure of Flanagan’s mobile phone and it showed that Flanagan had 2,212 screenshots of PULSE records on his mobile phone.

The garda investigation uncovered chats between then-garda Flanagan and Meere which shows Meere over a nine-month period making requests of Flanagan to get the names of registered owners of cars driven by females he had seen at different locations from the registration plates provided by Meere.

Meere’s wife was in court to hear the State lay out the details of the case.

In one exchange between Flanagan and Meere, one female car owner is described by Meere as "a blonde from Feakle and a cracker".

In another exchange, Meere, after seeing a profile picture on Facebook of a female driver, said "her profile picture isn’t too shabby - like her pants were painted onto her".

In response, Flanagan said: "She has some arse on her now to be fair. She is a teacher now" and in response Meere texted back, "she can teach me anything she wants to teach me".

Not sure who needs to hear this, but "judicial review" is literally just the name you give a case when a person says the State has broken a law (any law, about anything) and they want a court to put a stop to it. A politician saying "I am against anyone taking a judicial review" is proto-fascist.

The part of the legislation we are discussing here is called the carrying out of biometric analysis by members of the Garda Siochána. What is clear from a plain reading of this legislation, if enacted, is that it establishes a distinction between "biometric analysis" and "biometric identification".
Irrespective of what the Al Act says, here we are establishing a distinction between the two and only biometric analysis is permitted in this legislation."
Irrespective of what the Al Act says?
That is the wall Humpty Dumpty has decided to balance on. He will pass his law irrespective of the actual terms of the Al Act, and if it falls later he doesn't intend to be there to see it.
