Just as HCMC takes patients from all over, Hennepin & Ramsey absorb social services costs that other MN Counties either can’t afford or refuse to cover. The places w/ unhoused residents are the places that keep them alive. The places w/out unhoused people are places where they would be left to die.

Chills. This is 100% on point. There are social workers across the Greater Minnesota who know their local jurisdictions won’t be able to meet someone’s needs. They pull money out of their own pocket, buy them a bus ticket to Minneapolis, and tell them where to go to get help.

I really appreciate everyone’s passion over city politics, but Frey being removed or resigning over disagreement regarding the management of MPD is a theory that simply is not grounded in reality. (This is, for some reason, a theory that I have seen floating around.)

I will always stand with my trans siblings. I don’t care if it’s “strategic”, my values are not subordinate to tactics. If you wish there was less dialogue about trans people and their rights, you are always free to *not speak* on the topic, and be the change you want to see in the world.

Every time we hear "The homeless people didn't use the resources we offered," the next questions should be "What specific resources did you offer? Were they actually meant to be helpful to people you claim to want to help? Did you offer actual shelter? Did it accommodate couples? Pets? Wet or dry?"

Starbucks Workers United @sbworkersunited.org · 25/08/2026
🚨BREAKING: Our union of over 12,000 baristas are officially calling for a Starbucks boycott. Read this statement penned by Starbucks workers on why a boycott from ALL customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed:
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS is written inside a zig-zaggy speech bubble against crumbled paper. Beside it are the Starbucks Workers United logo and an image of a coffee cup being poured out.We, the 12,000 and growing members of Starbucks Workers United, call on everyone who stands with working people to boycott Starbucks until they finalize a contract with union baristas and stop union-busting.
What we’re fighting for is simple: a minimum $17/hr wage, enough hours to live on, better staffing in our stores, and basic workplace protections. Every year, our living costs rise but our wages don’t keep up – a growing pressure many American workers are feeling as corporate greed accelerates unchecked in our country.
Starbucks is banking on customers' blind loyalty to the integrity and values this company once stood for in order to keep squeezing them for profits. At a time when working-class people across the country are struggling in a challenging economy, it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and in support of workers; choosing to spend money at Starbucks is choosing a law breaking corporation over the baristas who make your coffee everyday exactly as you ask for it.
Starbucks has violated U.S. labor law more than any other company in modern history–the NLRB and its judges have found that Starbucks committed hundreds of labor violations and there are currently more than 550 unresolved unfair labor practice charges still pending against the company. Instead of finalizing a fair and reasonable union contract, Starbucks has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care for the workers who fuel the company’s profits by wasting millions of dollars on AI and technology that doesn’t work, launching countless gimmicky drinks designed to distract from real problems, and inventing pointless policies that do nothing but make our jobs harder.
This ongoing, irrational behavior by Starbucks and its refusal to settle a fair union contract with workers leaves us with no other choice than to call for a boycott. We know when working people stand up together, we win.
No Contract? No Coffee.

Don’t read Frazier's 35.95% as a sign that Hennepin voters don’t want a progressive attorney. The data says the opposite. To start: Frazier finished first in 227 of 394 precincts. Folk: 1st in 74, 2nd in 115, and 3rd-5th in 206 (more than half the precincts in Hennepin County).

In 2018 Irene won a five-way open primary with 33.2%. 8 years later, she earned 55.3% and added 6,923 votes to her Primary total. I’ve been on Irene’s team since the beginning and am so proud of the governing work we’ve done and the coalition we’ve built.
Stat card titled "Eight years of fighting for District 2," comparing Irene Fernando's Hennepin County District 2 primary results. 2018: open seat, five-way race, 33.2%, 9,577 votes, won a plurality (1st place, less than 50%). Arrow marked +6,923 votes and +22.1 points. 2026: incumbent, four-way race, 55.3%, 16,500 votes, won a majority (1st place, more than 50%).

Irene won 55% in D2’s Minneapolis precincts and 56% in suburban ones. She’s the only candidate on the ballot with no significant city-suburb gap. In fact she has no strong geographic correlations with any top of ticket DFLers, meaning Irene has an independent base electorally.
Lollipop chart titled "Irene Fernando is the only candidate without a city-suburb gap," comparing six District 2 campaigns on the difference between their Minneapolis and suburban vote share, with correlation to the city line at right. Flanagan, U.S. Senate: +22.6 points, r = +0.89. Frazier, County Attorney: +21.6, r = +0.91. Klobuchar, Governor: −12.3, r = −0.86. Omar, Congress CD5: +10.0, r = +0.67. Ellison, Attorney General: +5.3, r = +0.76. Fernando, County Commissioner, highlighted in teal: −1.6 points, r = −0.23, not statistically significant. Footer: every other campaign on the ballot sorted along the Minneapolis-suburb line; Fernando's didn't.

Irene won 52 out of 56 precincts, and the 4 she lost was by a combined 51 votes out of the 29,837 cast in the D2 Commissioner race. In 38 of 56 precincts, Irene won over 50% against three opponents; and in 36 precincts she won by a 2:1 margin.
Map titled "How decisively Irene Fernando won," showing all 56 Hennepin County District 2 precincts in the four-way 2026 primary, color-coded by her margin over the runner-up. Dark navy, won 2-to-1 or better: 36 precincts. Teal, won a majority (1st place, more than 50%): 2 precincts. Light teal, won a plurality (1st place, less than 50%): 14 precincts. Orange, lost: 4 precincts, by 51 votes in total. Navy dominates the map; the four losses cluster in Minneapolis Wards 4 and 5.

Irene Fernando won a mandate — 55.3% in a four-way race. And the more I dig into the math, the stronger her win is. To start, she won every city in the district: all four Minneapolis wards, Plymouth, Golden Valley, St. Anthony, and Medicine Lake. 🧵
