Here’s another one to track / comment on. All Forest Roads would be open to travel (think: e-bikes; off road vehicles) unless explicitly marked as closed. Sound reasonable? It’s a nightmare to implement. USFS manages now with Motor Vehicle Use Maps. If a road isn’t on the map, it’s closed.

I want to communicate directly with you today about important decisions we are making regarding our agency facilities. Today we are sharing the completed review of regional offices and research facilities as part of our broader reorganization effort. Through this review we identified more than $16 million in cost savings through local facility consolidation while avoiding the need for any additional directed relocations beyond those already identified for National Capital Region employees. In total we reviewed our regional offices and 64 research and development sites seeking a more efficient, cost-effective footprint while minimizing disruption for employees. The review found that...

In total we reviewed our regional offices and 64 research and development sites seeking a more efficient, cost-effective footprint while minimizing disruption for employees. The review found that 41 of the R&D sites should be retained due to their critical importance to the agency's research mission. This is in addition to the original 20 identified for retention earlier this spring.
Twenty-three sites with minimal to no staffing were identified for closure. Employees at these affected locations will transition to other facilities within local commuting areas, allowing us to consolidate our physical footprint while retaining the people, the research and the expertise needed to carry out our mission.
This is news that deserves clarity.
