Ink & Switch's approach of being forward-looking while staying uncompromising on both the value of intention in what you make and the necessity of shaping the world to match your and your community'´s system of values is (in my opinion) the most essential message in software right now
A quote from Peter van Hardenberg, the lab director of Ink & Switch, from his talk "How to Research Tools for Thought":

"I would encourage everybody to think about how – as we're moving through this new world – that we are intentional about how we shape it. And I don't want to tell you whether you should or shouldn't adopt any particular technology, but I will tell you that the world will not wait for us – and that we need to figure out how we can engage with our values and our intentions, and how we can serve our communities to make sure that the people who are using these tools that we build and that other people build are able to do them in safe and trustworthy ways, but also in ways that are satisfying and joyful and let us have what we set out to do."

We have released a new version of @iroh.computer. Nothing major in terms of features, but we did manage to significantly reduce the binary size. So now my entire embedded device zoo is running on iroh from crates.io. No more patch needed. www.iroh.computer/blog/iroh-1-...

Iroh currently does not support nostd, so you would have to fork not just iroh but our entire protocol ecosystem to do something actually useful... can we maybe just get std to work?

Chinook salmon have recolonised 88% of their historic range on the Klamath River, with more than 13,000 fish passing the old Iron Gate Dam site in 2025, up from 7,700 the year before. Two years after the dams’ removal, it’s going better than anyone predicted. buff.ly/pToC9gB #ShareGoodNewsToo

A consistent pitch by the makers of ai wearables is that they solve the problem of getting to know your child. www.businessinsider.com/parents-brea...
Molly, who runs a startup to help parents book activities for kids, is willing to use AI for logistics, like meal planning or sorting through her email to surface the most important messages from their daughter's school. Sean, who works in tech sales, wants to go further. He has his eyes on Omi necklace, an AI wearable that listens in on your day and includes a feature called Parent Whisperer. It records and analyzes interactions between parent and child, logging things like school assignments and supplies to order. The device also picks up on tone, alerting parents when their kid may be unhappy — registering everything from "from toddler tantrums to teenage mood swings," per its ad copy — and offering "expert-backed guidance" on how to respond.

I heard some guy say that LLMs produce the sentence most likely to be true, and I got so angry that now I go out of my way to tell students that LLMs don't produce the sentence most likely to be true, they produce statistically probable sentences. Explaining what this means is helpful, I've found.

When people picture running a large language model, they picture a data center. For a lot of teams that is a bad trade. You give up control over when models change, where your data goes, and what hardware runs your workloads. MeshLLM has a novel way of solving this! www.iroh.computer/blog/mesh-llm

While the AI bubble is primarily a *material* phenomenon (driven by the calculation that bosses are easy marks for a sales pitch for replacing workers with apps), there is an inescapable ideological component to it: the desire for a world without people in it: pluralistic.net/2026/05/13/v... 1/
A Dore engraving of Samson toppling the temple, in which a loincloth-clad Samson pushes aside the columns holding up an Egyptian(ish) temple as people flee the collapsing roof. The image has been altered: Samson's head has been replaced with the head of a pulp magazine robot, while in the background trudge away many other robots. Samson is gold-tinted, and has been limned with a nova of golden light. The rest of the image has been hand-tinted.
